first of all, a HUGE thank you to everyone who voted for me, it's way more attention than I'd ever expected. Seriously, all of you rock.

The shower curtain is Marimekko, and I bought it from Crate and Barrel right around June, when it was on sale. The laptop chair is my fake eames lounge chair I got from a store called This Is Not Ikea. I'm not sure about the maker, on craigslist people attribute this specific knock-off to all kinds of manufacturers, but you can easily pick one up for under $200. It is addictively comfy.

I've only been living here since last June, so I'm really proud of what I've accomplished with a healthy dose of craigslist and goodwill hunting.

Love the stove, and that green wall really is a bold choice that paid off well. It looks like a great place to come home to to relax!

272 square feet. 13 people over for a cocktail party. Everyone had a place to sit. I had extra chairs ready to deploy for an occasion like this: stacking hugo chairs from Ikea.

what you might not realize is that if you're good friends with one of the lucky students who's living there, you can get an even better tour.

I fail to see why there's a downside. I research and view lots because its something I enjoy. I probably do it a lot more than the average homeowner, so I get bored with certain motifs a lot sooner than the casual browser. I just accept that I'm going to be moving at a faster speed than many.

My only real splurges to date are a case study cabinet that's in my kitchen and an arc lamp that's over my dining table. But both of these were bought via craigslist at prices where I could sell them for as much/more than what I paid for them.

The plan is to save up for a truly nice sleeper sofa to replace the current ikea model. A truly comfy bed is important to me. But that's going to have to happen down the road.

I was a bit of a pack-rat as a child, so a lot of my "collections" were things I couldn't be bothered to get rid of, but probably should have. I've got more of a passive collection for a few things now. I've kept my coin collection, which I've very irregularly added things to. Not that the coins were ever super valuable, but there's a cool feeling about owning something that's 200 years old.

Have You Kept Up Your Childhood Collections?

I'm planning to collect mid-century art and posters. Ideally, I'd have the full set of Aicher's prints for the 1972 Munich Olympics. A similar thing I plan to collect is copies of Visionaire, or any similar art book.

I've been in one Beverly Hills mansion. I couldn't even begin to imagine how much it's worth, but I was left with one conclusion: This wasn't really what I'd call the pinnacle of design. The furnishings were very traditional, very much scaled to the size of the rooms, but there wasn't really ever a wow factor. It was... wealth porn, if that makes any sense.

I would never rent an apartment that wasn't close to work. LA traffic is miserable and I'd rather walk than have to sit in traffic for hours.

As a man, I always get the feeling that I'm sort of in the minority of people blogging about interior design. That said, I think that men who aren't really interested in design tend to favor certain things over others, but I wouldn't call that part of "men's style"

User Klausonline here, seeing as there's some sort of glitch going on.
My first apartment (which I'm living in still) I found on Padmapper. I had to go through a number of hoops and get the parents to cosign, but it was the best deal in the neighborhood, and it's a block from work.
Downsides? Only 272 square feet and the management has been slow to fix things. So it goes.

I'm definitely one of the smaller ones here: 272 square feet. It's just me, but I've found a way to make a studio space into four separate rooms... I could easily fit two more people into the apartment. Honestly, I couldn't live in a massive house. I've been inside one of the mansions owned by a Real Housewife of Beverly Hills, and it's just overwhelming. You just feel dwarfed by the space, and everything has to be supersized to not feel too airy. Give me a space with less than 1000 square feet and I'll be great.

Average Home Sizes Around the World

I'm not sure what counts as a 'large' purchase, but if the qualifier is buying something for its craft and durability, and because you love it, then I was 21 when I purchased my first piece. I purchased a midcentury desk from an antiques store, and paid just under 200 dollars for it. It was excessive, because at the time I thought I'd only use it for a semester. Now that I'm living on the west coast permanently, I have no regrets about purchasing it because it's wonderful for anchoring the space and it'll last a lifetime.

@vuska
flash sites: meaning either 'websites where steep discounts are offered on limited quantities of merch for a limited amount of time' or 'websites that use the Adobe flash plugin'. iPads can't handle the flash plugin.

I've had decent success with Gilt. The only time I've been let down they let me return the product with no problem and credited the amount to my account again. I can't shop there every day, but when I know I need one particular thing, it makes it easier knowing that I can get it there

I'm a poor college student with a knockoff Eames lounger. I wanted the look and there was no way I could have afforded the original. While I know its not the same, I still feel really happy every time I sit in it.
I'm trying to have less things in general, so I can focus on getting the ones that make me happier
