272 square feet. 13 people over for a cocktail party. Everyone had a place to sit. I had extra chairs ready to deploy for an occasion like this: stacking hugo chairs from Ikea. Small Space Solutions: Hosting a Dinner Party in a Studio |

I fail to see why there's a downside. I research and view lots because its something I enjoy. I probably do it a lot more than the average homeowner, so I get bored with certain motifs a lot sooner than the casual browser. I just accept that I'm going to be moving at a faster speed than many. My only real splurges to date are a case study cabinet that's in my kitchen and an arc lamp that's over my dining table. But both of these were bought via craigslist at prices where I could sell them for as much/more than what I paid for them. Where Do You Spend vs. Save at Home? |

I was a bit of a pack-rat as a child, so a lot of my "collections" were things I couldn't be bothered to get rid of, but probably should have. I've got more of a passive collection for a few things now. I've kept my coin collection, which I've very irregularly added things to. Not that the coins were ever super valuable, but there's a cool feeling about owning something that's 200 years old. Have You Kept Up Your Childhood Collections? |

I'm planning to collect mid-century art and posters. Ideally, I'd have the full set of Aicher's prints for the 1972 Munich Olympics. A similar thing I plan to collect is copies of Visionaire, or any similar art book. What's Your Dream Collection? |

I've been in one Beverly Hills mansion. I couldn't even begin to imagine how much it's worth, but I was left with one conclusion: This wasn't really what I'd call the pinnacle of design. The furnishings were very traditional, very much scaled to the size of the rooms, but there wasn't really ever a wow factor. It was... wealth porn, if that makes any sense. As a man, I always get the feeling that I'm sort of in the minority of people blogging about interior design. That said, I think that men who aren't really interested in design tend to favor certain things over others, but I wouldn't call that part of "men's style" Setting Up Home: Men's Style from Our House Tours |

I'm definitely one of the smaller ones here: 272 square feet. It's just me, but I've found a way to make a studio space into four separate rooms... I could easily fit two more people into the apartment. Honestly, I couldn't live in a massive house. I've been inside one of the mansions owned by a Real Housewife of Beverly Hills, and it's just overwhelming. You just feel dwarfed by the space, and everything has to be supersized to not feel too airy. Give me a space with less than 1000 square feet and I'll be great. Average Home Sizes Around the World |

I'm not sure what counts as a 'large' purchase, but if the qualifier is buying something for its craft and durability, and because you love it, then I was 21 when I purchased my first piece. I purchased a midcentury desk from an antiques store, and paid just under 200 dollars for it. It was excessive, because at the time I thought I'd only use it for a semester. Now that I'm living on the west coast permanently, I have no regrets about purchasing it because it's wonderful for anchoring the space and it'll last a lifetime. How Old Were You?
