Other than the kitchen (different issue), I would have done a bit more to warm it up. As it is, it looks like it would feel like living in a lobby.

Just FYI, a vintage version of this would not cost less, it would cost considerably more. Like in the range of $10,000 - $20,000. Even rusty!

What one chooses to live with is entirely a matter of personal choice. Paint everything magenta and gold if that's what makes you happy, but that doesn't mean it's good design.

True classic modern (MCM, if you like) is based on a strong foundation of aesthetic, sensory, and even ethical principles. It emerged from a dedication to raising the level of consciousness in our living environment through an enlightened awareness of form, function, and material.

"Shabby Chic" is like comfort food; overstuffed and steeped in sentimentality; nourishing, perhaps, but neither enlightening nor even particularly interesting.

This look takes the emphasis off materials, form, and craftsmanship and places it squarely on a grab-bag juxtaposition of cheap, over-ornamentation. It's really against everything good design stands for.

WONderful...EXCEPT for the eighties-ified rattan chair with the Florida chintz... It looks like it's right off the set of the Golden Girls...! It's soooo out of place in your sleek-yet-warm classic modern....

For those of us of a certain age, the whole Ralph Lauren Edwardian fantasy still resonates very strongly as been there, done that.

The coffee table is the Isokon Loop, available in the U.S. from Daniel Donelly (http://www.danieldonnelly.com/). I have it, it's awesome.

Wright is notoriously and spectacularly overpriced. Its supporters will tell you that (a) their curating is impeccable (I would agree, for the most part), and (b) the people who buy there are those for whom money is no object.

Sorry, but I think the gray would be awful. Pretty much the worst choice. If you love the impact of the back-splash, I would take the intensity of that element out to the rest of the room--in other words, don't think that you're going to somehow balance that intensity by doing something subtle. You'll accomplish just the opposite: No balance at all. You should consider doing a color that is just as intense. If you can handle it, a striking apple red would be amazing. If you want something just as dramatic but not quite as glam, do a very intense chocolate brown.

Don't be hatin' on the separate stall and tub. I always disliked taking a shower in the tub (I'm sorry, but the whole step-over thing always felt like a work-around for lack of a superior application), and now, with a separate tub (a soaking tub, mind you), a bath is a true luxury. In small New York apartments in particular, the little bit of extra space can mean a lot.

I've always hated the idea of a toothpastey glass living by the sink, so I've always gone straight for the stream out of the faucet--just like from the garden hose, no hands needed. When I moved into a new construction condo recently, I wasn't totally thrilled with the look of the highly-arched faucets in the bathroom, until I experienced how easily they facilitate my chosen form of rinsing. Now, I love them!

I think Schnabel is "taking the piss out," as the British say, and privately laughing at everyone who praises this piffle.
