Just watched the entire video and it was fine. Great site. Her instructions were excellent and I loved that she used common items for the project....paper clips, for example.

Sally305...What exactly did your son think he would find in New England? However, Hampshire College in Amherst, MA, has no colonial buildings. They are all really ugly 60's bunker style.

How about Flor Tiles? It looks like you have enough room for your door to clear them. And you can take them with you when you go. I'd like a dark border with an pattern center.

Before you decide on what kind of ambient lighting you need, check out task lighting. Bars of lights that attach onto the bottom of cabinets will make a real difference. Track lighting makes me think of a modern design, while a single light can mean modern or country, or anything in between depending upon what style you choose.

A typical dishwasher is 36 inches wide, which is a standard for unpainted shelves. You can cut down ready made shelves and stain them. A neighbor replaced a trash compactor with bookshelves and they look great.
