This is ingenious! I have been looking for a simple, inexpensive, streamlined side table for my living room for weeks. I also LOVE that I can recycle my stash of old towels and curtains for this project. *Heads out the door to get some wire mesh*

Young House Love is one of my favourite design blogs, and I loved this post. I just bought a new house and am still in the process of unpacking, organizing, and painting. I have to stop myself from getting discouraged and wanting everything to be perfect NOW. It's so refreshing to see that no one's perfect and good design does take time.

I love that this home is light and airy, but still feels decidedly masculine. That's such a tough combo and these adorable guys have done it so well. Bravo!

I just visited Fallingwater outside of Pittsburgh for the first time (it's AMAZING, by the way). Frank Lloyd Wright used cork in each of the four ensuite bathrooms in the house because it was a natural and organic material. So, the moral of this story is - cork is the choice of geniuses.

If I walked into a gentleman's apartment and it looked like this, I'd swoon. Well done!

I do have two (very small) quibbles: first, the art over the dining room table looks like it's hung a bit too high.

Second -- and this is a tiny, tiny thing -- the orange daisies on the coffee table look like they were unwrapped from their grocery store packaging and plunked in a vase without being trimmed down. Definitely man flowers :)

Much better.

But...doesn't that woman look kinda like she's been photoshopped into this picture?

Totally agree with mschatelaine. I actually stopped reading online shelter mags because I don't like the format. (Blogs are a different story because they're nice little bite-sized pieces of information). I much prefer to cozy up on my couch and devote an hour to flipping through a magazine I can hold in my hands.

I agree with both Anna Europe and DC Girl. So much creativity, but there's a little too much the "old-wood-with-writing" for me. However, I applaud her originality.

She's so depressed, she can't even remember to put her pants on! No amount of soothing mint green can solve THAT.

Snarky comments aside - I agree. Pretty space.

Favourite. House Tour. EVER. Seriously.

Two questions:
1) Where is the "If you cant stand the heat get out of the kitchen" poster from?
2) Can I move in?

Yes, how DARE your rose-and-sunflower-toting friends force you to have a "tacky" apartment for a week. Shame on them for being sweet and attentive guests.

Hi all - Emma (the question-asker) here.

After thinking it over, I've decided to proceed with caution. Though bedbugs are starting to emerge in my city, we don't have huge problems with them. I've already seen the couch in person, but I'm going to inspect it more closely before I take it home. I also plan to steam clean it before I bring it inside.

I also talked to the seller about my concerns, and she says she's never had any problems with bed bugs.

Anyway, I'm certainly not as freaked out as I was earlier this week, but I had never really considered this aspect of buying used furniture before and I'm now going into it eyes-wide-open.

Thanks for all of your comments!

Forget about the storage boxes - let's talk about those framed floating vases! I love them - but how do you invisibly mount a glass vase?
