We have a Schoolhouse fixture in our kitchen. The milky glass shades are fantastic... they just glow.

We live in an old house (one outlet per bedroom!) and I desperately need to know how to convert those Home Depot fixtures to battery/LED! Just brilliant.

I wonder why they did the "loaf"? My family's (southern) dressing recipe would work well as the layers... I might do this just to gross my sister out. She's one of those people who doesn't like the different types of food on her plate to touch each other.

My husband burned ours out kneading heavy dough... we drove it 3 hours to the nearest authorized repair center. Blown fuse. THREE BUCKS. Yes!

My first thought: Americans' kitchens are apparently just as oversized as our houses, waistlines, and carbon footprints. So many of these would be thought of as prohibitively tiny here in American homes.

Oh, amen, Faith. My vines are dying and I'm mourning them and already wondering when I should plant them for the fall harvest. They are my favorite garden snack-- and Gracie's, too. We hardly have any that make it inside the house.

Not that you need any more advice, but Caphalon's hard-adonized 12-inch Everyday Pan is 39.99 on Amazon. That'd be very useful to any college student.

Ozark black walnuts are a delicacy, and during walnut season buyers set up in town to weigh and pay you for the harvest you pick up off the ground. It's a win-win situation-- you get the ankle-spraining things off the lawn, and they get the walnuts.

Last year, we gave the honor of harvesting our yard to an unemployed couple who was hauling load after load of wanuts to the dealers to make some money.

This year, I may try cashing in myself-- but next spring, I'll be trying this in hopes of some wonderful Christmas gifts. Thanks for the tip, Faith!

I've always thought that Ichiban eggplants were beautiful enough to plant within any flowerbed. I love the purple veins running through the leaves, and matching purple flowers and then eggplants.

Florida grew me oceans of eggplants, too many to eat. Here in Arkansas, they got attacked by beetles nonstop. This year, eggplant FAIL. I'll try again next year.

My upcoming appliance purchase is vintage: a late 1940's Chambers stove (BZ model) with chrome, side lights, and the magnificient thermowell. We've had it reporcelained in black. I am breathless with anticipation.

Umm, Faith, that volunteer squash or melon doesn't look like a squash or melon to me. My guess is a wild violet.

Love the mint pot! The Kentucky Colonel is a gentleman... he doesn't spread that much in the ground, according to a local herb farm (of course, that's here, not where you live...).

Congrats on the "real" garden at last!

(Faith, is that your kitchen in your new place? And did you two do that tilework and shelving? If so, AWESOME.)

My current top kitchen projects are 1) ripping off 1960s paneling, removing 1910s wallpaper and cheesecloth and thousands of tiny nails holding on the cheesecloth, and priming and painting the huge horizontal boards beneath in hopes that it will look beautiful and vintage and homey and not crappy. (I am hesitating before the enormity of this task and the uncertainty of its results.)

2) is easier: finding a kitchen cabinet type thingy to fill in the last bit of wallspace in the kitchen to give us a little more workspace, then installing open shelving above that for pretties, dishes, etc. I just found a perfect match to our (homemade 1950s) cabinets on Ebay, but it's ten inches too long. I bought it anyway and will put it on the adjoining back porch/coffee roastery/recycling chaos room.

Oh, here's one more project: convincing the restorer that's got our vintage Chambers stove to get moving and FINISH it already. He's had it forever.

I looked at it and thought, "Anthropologie," then looked into the Wary Meyers site and found out I was pretty much right.

My grandma-style guest room (that I have yet to remodel) might benefit from the addition of some shelves around the ceiling like this. I know the rest of my bookcases would benefit from having a place to pack 'em in like this.
