I have an interesting situation, my parents just divorced about 3 years ago after 40 years of marriage. My mother cannot get over it. My husband is an only child. So no matter what we do, someone gets upset. My dad divorced all of us so at least he doesn't factor in anymore. Last year, because my husband had to work I drove to my mother's house. She complained the entire time and I found out later that she had been invited to my SIL's family get-together. (She lives in the same town as my brother, I am three hours away.) This year I just put my foot down and said we're not going anywhere. I get that she is in retail and has to work a lot during the holidays but my husband's company does a lot of work during this time, too. Like many have said, I just am learning to say no and realizing I can't be responsible for other people, only my own family. Everyone is always welcome to join us here at my house and to their credit, my in-laws will always come, but my mother will sit home alone and cry about her children abandoning her even though she was invited to spend the day with both of us. My parents were big fans of avocado green. Our refrigerator and living room furniture were avocado green LONG past its stylishness. I don't think I could do buy anything that color now even if I wanted to! (I don't.) How Did Your Parents' Color Choices Influence Your Own? |

Sprouts is my new favorite. Only very rarely do I need to venture into Kroger for something they don't carry. Like fake maple syrup for my kid's waffles, haha! The Kroger here is nasty. The produce is often rotting and buzzing with fruit flies. Broccoli had been black for months before the Sprouts opened and I was able to change stores. I fail to see how pointing out that a vegan recipe is not vegan is "nasty." It's not like anyone nitpicked over an obscure ingredient - it was cheese and fish stock. In fact, the nastiest responses in this thread are from people acting as if we're over-reacting. It's not "snobbery" to not want to eat an animal product when you're vegan, my goodness. Our next door neighbors have a yard crew who find it necessary to park in front of our house for some reason. This wouldn't be so bad except it's a pick-up truck with a trailer so it blocks a lot of space, including the mailbox. If they can't get started right away, they hang around by the mailbox and smoke. They frequently run over the same sprinkler head getting their equipment over to the neighbor's lawn. (Yes, we've spoken to them about it.) They also recently pruned OUR tree. Presumably because it hung over the property line somewhat but they came onto OUR property and pruned it back to the trunk. When they started using a weedeater on the crepe myrtle that's also on our property, my husband made a little fence of stones to show the property line. Apparently, they then surveyed and painted bright orange marks on the curb and sidewalk to show the property line. It IS our tree so I hope they at least feel stupid now.
