It's cute! It never claimed to enhance battery life, double the warranty or be perfect. There's a reason why it wasn't made as a factory feature. On the other hand, I'm super happy that 1. the mod is there for THOSE willing to go thru the install and void their warranty 2. Apple hasn't tried to shut them down yet (like they did with the white-case mod), and 3. there are people out there who'd alter their phones and add their own geeky / alternative twist to something that already looks beautiful. It's only a bad idea if you don't embrace "eclectic", which isn't a guarantee that it'll look good together, just that it has a little of everything. On the other hand, such a bold color/ pattern decision shouldn't be shunned, or matched but embraced and coordinated. Jeweltone accessories are somewhat predictable, but even black and white would work, as long as you mimic something from the rug, either color or shape-wise.
