To each his own, I could see this treatment in a little girls room or childs bath as it is whimsical. Ditto on the embroidery and headboard...very tasty indeed. If it were my room, I would either paint the ceiling the same color or add some crown molding. But it does make us think about the problems we face sometimes with less than perfect rooms we have to deal with. Thanks for being brave enough to share with us. Look! I like the guy...well not actually the guy...but his idea for graphics on the wall behind the bike...if that doesnt work for you...a high console behind the bed seems pretty cool...maybe a lacqued piece with leather pillows affixed...or if the bike is cool to look at...and your budget would allow...a console out of lucite/plexy.....good for you that you use a bike!! Likely you wouldnt paint on the front side...due to the fact that you would be removing it everytime you used a window/glass cleaner. therefore, it is likely reverse painted glass...in French called Eglomise...it is done before the final silvering is done...makes for a lovely finish....I think its nice...not predictable ...and yes...pink flatters us...so why not!! Sorry, but it is likely a misshap due to an air duct or some other such thing...obviously the builder was not asthetically (sp?) trained...Don't turn it into any of the aforementioned things...its an eyesore...cover it over...hide valuables behind a huge painting/mirror and place a console in front and do with it what you woud do with a wall that had no eyesore as this.....don't try to decorate around it. Esp if this is in a walkway...keep things proportionately correct to allow passage. If there is considerably more room to work with you have more latitude. Also consider what you might grab in the case of disaster...keep a stack of bins full of important documents...water...all the other items we are supposed to have on hand....in case of fire/earthquake...etc...break that mirror/painting...grab your babies and those bins...and get the h out of there......trust me...you wont think twice about that eyesore Apartment Therapy New York | Good Questions: What Should I Do With This Alcove? |

Verre Èglomisé , This is a very old term for reverse glass painting. I too am a lover of such as it conveys a totally unique look that cannot be achieved by simply placing a flat panel of glass over an existing wall/paint. The design actually has to be done in reverse...( read:...no drinking while attempting this DIY project )...once you figure out the mirror image, you can in effect either paint freehand or have a stencil for a precise effect. I am currently working on circular nesting tables with eglomise tops. Try it, you will love it. Type in "reverse painting" on ebay and pull up everything from jardinere's to courting couples/ Silhouettes and everything in between. If you are a real art and history nut, google/ASK and see a dazzling array of examples. Apartment Therapy Boston | April: Most Popular Questions Best of 2008 |

I would think if you seal the piece with a quality tough varathane, your problem would be solved...just don't wrap the edges like a present...hold it back less than a 1/16th of an inch...to all appearances it will look like it goes to the edge but w/o the problem of fraying/and/or sticking....love the idea too. You could also stencil directly with either a sprayer or by hand...depending on your look...spraying being a little sleeker...whereas hand applied more "old world" in feeling....post your pics when you do!!!
