Although I was unsure about this too when my daughter turned one. She opened her presents and was very excited to see everything. I think it was mostly the other people's reaction that had her clapping and giggling. This was a small party though and she only had a few gifts. I would not have opened them had there been a lot of presents. Not just for her sake, but for everyones. Kids just don't have that much patience, even if it is fun. Our now 18 mth old started off great, trying anything we gave her. She is gradually becoming more and more picky (with veggies more than anything). She also does not like to eat the same things two days in a row, even things she likes. Strange. Maybe more flavors will help (I'm not the best cook) Thanks for the find. We stayed at the Pheonix on the Bay in Gulfshores (Orange Beach), Alabama this summer. They also have a lazy river, two big pools, a kidde pool and a water slide. It was great the girls went swimming as soon as we got there and we didn't leave the hotel, but for one day to go shopping.
