The LED motion light seems exactly like what I've been looking for, for the courtyard behind my apartment. No lights back there. I figured I would have to either have an electrician run power or get a solar one, but this looks promising. At $30, I'll certainly give it a try.

Also, I'm still quite pleased with the simplisafe alarm system unplggd reviewed a couple months ago. Kudos on a good call. It may not make the affordable cut-off for this article, but it's still pretty affordable.

I got one after reading about it here and finding this positive review:

i decided to go ahead and try it. I'd second everything in that review - it's good looking, easy to install, easy to use, and their customer service is great. i called to ask about the batteries, and they said the batteries shoudl last about 5 years and they did all come included, so I don't think that's really a concern after all. My only complaint so far is that the shipping was a bit slow... but then again, i can be impatient ;)

For us non-tech-savvy mortals, well, it still looks like a computer to me... though I have to agree, it doesn't look bad.
