ohhhhh if cilantro only TASTED like soap, i would be able to choke it down with the rest of my burrito. instead, it tastes and smells like something so much more awful... i liken it to the smell of vomit. seriously. the other day we were at our winter farmer's market eating lunch at the long communal table and when i leaned down to take a bite of my sandwich i was instantly repulsed by the smell... i looked around and a woman sitting all the way at the other end of the table (5 or so people between us) had some cilantro on her pan-asian noodles. shudder.

i have always hated it. the first few times i tried it, i immediately gagged and had to spit it out. i've tried it in all different types of cuisines and dishes... no luck. i keep torturing myself occasionally by trying to eat it, but each time i gag at the smell. i guess the only thing that mei and i have in common is our pleasure in reading calvino!

I buy Granny Choe's because it's vegetarian-- but it really adds up cost-wise because I can go through that small jar in just a few days. When I have time to make my own, I like using the blogger Maangchi's recipe.

Definitely try the kimchee pancake & butter kimchi.

Also:
-kimchee fried rice w/an egg over easy served on top
-kimchi potstickers (make sure to squeeze out all excess liquid and dice finely)
-i think closetcooking.blogspot.com has pretty creative ways of incorporating kimchi into his cooking. i haven't tried any of the recipes, but maybe you'll find something you like!

I wish with all my heart that I could love these foods:

cottage cheese, asparagus, & raw tomatoes.

I've slowly started eating cherry tomatoes and I'm going to try to move up to the other varieties... it's hard, but making sure to start with fruit from my friend's garden is helping quite a bit.

I'll still eat asparagus (I've had it prepared every which way and it still tastes gross) but only because I force myself!

Cottage cheese is always a massive failure. Every few months, I'll try to eat it with some fresh fruit but it ends up going in the compost Every. Single. Time!

@pbelardo, they should be in the refrigerated section. They come in various jar sizes so you'll be able to see them pretty quickly. If you see pickled vegetables you'll find umeboshi nearby.

These are so tasty! Love eating them with my ochazuke.

Well, I just moved into my new apartment exactly one month ago and 95% of my belongings are still in boxes. It's been so hard for me to sit down and try to unpack. I dread it so much!

However, I've come up with some solutions. Yesterday I bought a bookcase/shelving system and dresser drawers at IKEA. Part of my excuse at putting things off was that I didn't have anywhere to unpack things into. My boyfriend and I are going to attempt to put together the furniture and unpack the rest of my kitchen today.

Moving/Unpacking is such an ordeal. You're excited about getting to redesign a new space, but at the same time it seems like such a daunting task!

Yay! Going to IKEA today... definitely picking up these cookie cutters. Is that just a basic sugar cookie recipe you're using or something special? Is there one on the site? Hmmm I should start looking...

My mom always made me tuna sandwiches and gave me a bag of cheese doritos to eat with it when I was a kid. To this day, I crave doritos when I have a tuna sandwich and am not satisfied with a side of potato chips. Is this totally crazy? I feel like there must be other people out there who need a bag of doritos with their tuna sandwich!

Aw I wish I had known about this or I definitely would've been there as well! Yum yum yum. My favorite way to eat artichoke is steamed and dipped in kewpie mayo.

I try to eat as much of the mistake that's edible, but then the rest goes in the garbage. My boyfriend is amazing and is happy to eat anything I make (mistake or not) so we think of ways that X could have been better as we're eating. I've never ordered takeout after a mistake; just dug through the cupboards and made some pasta to fill up.

Yep! Ours opened on Saturday. I went but was disappointed by the cherries. Maybe next weekend will be better!

Growing up I was used to cooking on an electric stove but since I moved out from home for college, I've been using gas and have fallen in LOVE. I just can't imagine boiling water on electric. I tried it once when I was home and almost died waiting.

That being said, I have to move again in a month when I graduate and I am definitely NOT turning down a nice, affordable apt just because of the stove.

I just went camping last weekend but brought my portable stove. We made zucchini and mushroom omelets for breakfast & packed prosciutto, mozzarella, and arugula sandwiches on focaccia for the hike. For dinner it was Giada's penne with steak and arugula. The only pre-trip prep work I did was make the dressing for the pasta. Ah camping... I want to go back already!

We did have s'mores, but next time I must bring the LU's Petit Ecolier! What a great idea. I love those cookies, and it totally eliminates being stuck with a nearly-full box of graham crackers-- I'm not a big fan of them.

I love that idea! There are definitely times I see cool hooks when I'm out shopping but don't buy them since I can't convince myself I will actually use them. I should start looking more closely now for hooks that will work in my kitchen.
