Looks like I won't be getting the painting done this weekend. Sigh. After I moved all the bookcases out, I discovered a floor-to-ceiling crack in the wall that needs to be patched and sanded, and then primed before I can add color. On the up side, we have chosen the color, taken one load of old electronics to Staples to be recycled, and have another load ready to go. Plus TONS of shredding done. The place is starting to look more like an office and less like an oversized junk drawer. Even if this project doesn't get done before the end of the month, I suspect I will be able to finish things up over Labor Day weekend!

Got three of my photos matted/framed, and have now found some others I would like to do, so another trip to Pat Catan for frames is in order :-)

Not doing the shopping this weekend either, although for a slightly different reason - the only thing I need to buy is 2 gallons of paint and an outlet cover, so the expense isn't going to be too bad. Unfortunately, I am still dithering between two slightly different paint colors (this needs to coordinate with hallway paint), and my husband has yet to weigh in since he is out of town. So, this weekend is all about taking stuff out of my office that is finding a new home elsewhere, namely two bookcases that are going to the hallway. It was kind of a huge job, but done now. Considering they only took up a few feet of floor space, it's amazing how much more open the space looks without them!

Looks like my years-old plan for paint still works - a cool putty color with white trim. On the other hand, I am now trying to figure out what kinds of color accents I want to set that off. How much can cool and warm colors be mixed before it starts looking like a mishmash?

Day 6: Let's Learn About Color Apartment Therapy's Style Cure

I went old fashioned for this one and used graph paper and cut-outs of the moveable stuff (actually, I was wishing for ColorForms like I had when I was a kid). Turns out the best thing I can do for my office will be to move two bookshelves into the back hallway (along with a third that has been in a room off the kitchen). Back there they will be a solid wall of shelving that will almost perfectly fit the space, and by getting them out of the office I can now sit with my back to a wall (instead of the door) and still have a view out the window!

Day 5: Make a Floor Plan Apartment Therapy's Style Cure

My room is going to be my office, FINALLY! Some of what I am looking for is a style fix (the walls have been primed but never painted, and the wood trim never even got that far), but most is just a matter of reclaiming it. Because it is a pass-through space between our living room and the steps to the bedrooms, it attracts clutter. It is so overwhelmed with stuff that I cannot use it for anything, much less writing and sewing. True story: I took "before" pictures of the room with my good camera yesterday, but then couldn't find the cable to offload the photos amid the clutter on my desk, so I ended up retaking them with my phone this morning. Here's to improvement by the end of August!

Just to let y'all know (and I know this is an OLD thread): margarine is NOT dairy-free. If you read the label on just about any box of margarine (I have checked Fleischman's and "I can't believe it's not butter" as well as a few others), you can see that they all contain whey.
