you use an angle grinder. first, a softer grit to remove whatever the original finish was, leaving the base texture. once satisfied with that look, use a rougher grit to etch in a random pattern of swirls and such to your liking. when happy, seal the whole thing with a vile chemical called incralac (recommended because it finishes perfectly clear).

work gloves are a good idea, but absolutely crucial throughout the process is ear and eye protection. the angle grinder whines at an awful pitch, and the shavings go everywhere.

looks expensive when complete, and that's always a plus.

you know, you could also just buy it direct from andrew himself.

i did, and he got it from the UK to brooklyn far, far faster than i expected him to - within three days or so, no expedited shipping paid for.

and if you're of the opinion that this bucket's overpriced, then you're clearly unacquainted with the pricelessness of true, perfectly executed design.

how funny, seeing this here.

joseph, don't hate me for outing you --

this "joseph" fella is in fact the co-owner of atlas industries. thus, his place is wallpapered with the incredibly beautiful AS4 stuff. very cool to see his implementation in his apartment...i know him because i'm a client of his, and the wall that the shelving graces in our apartment is made whole by virtue of the shelving alone.

oh, and ladies - he's single.
