I used to want one of these so badly, but I did a bit of online research on a few product review type websites and heard nothing but bad reviews, and people wishing they had never bought one. Lots of complaints about lack of service from the company too, even when still under warranty. Such a pity that such a gorgeous thing can't be functional AND stylish. Still, they are lovely to look at. Sigh.

Lovely! So happy to see an Australian house on here.
PS: You know how no one says 'Frisco'? No one here says 'Down Under'. Ever. It makes us cringe.

I totally agree with GirlInATower. We have been TV-free for years, and just group the seating to face each other, rather than a box. The conversation is the focus, isn't it?

design.va: I hate that one too!

Also ghost chairs to me fell very 2009, and I'd like to see the end of them. I could never understand their popularity in the first place actually.

I have to agree with sally305. I dislike obvious stylist influence too. I think that it is possible to live so far in the fantasy interior world of magazine shoots, that many stylists actually think that a set of carefully placed shoes that are out of place 'just so' equals an authentic looking space that someone lives in. Surprise, it doesn't.
For me, not one of the featured photos in this post look like they actually have someone living there, which is a negative thing in my opinion.

That photo of the succulents is absolutely stunning!

To souk1501, a really cheap and effective way to keep birds away from your balcony is to put a kids toy rubber snake somewhere visable.. they won't come near.

I love love love this house tour.

I have wondered away from AT for quite some time, mostly due to the sameness of the tours ('splashy mid century items' as someone said above describes it perfectly) but also.. reading yet another comment about all the 'dusting' a place must need that has decorative items.... Arrggh!
It is SO offensive. If a person collects items worthy of display, then usually they love them enough to look after them and keep them looking good. Stop applying your own lazy can't-be-bothered-dusting attitude to the rest of us who care about our spaces.

The urinal one is brilliant!! Yes, they have toilets in bars all over the world.. but have you ever walked home with a bunch of blokes after they have been drinking beer all night? They will pee in all kinds of places that women wont, just because they can.
This is a sensible, funny solution to a well known problem. I would love to see them everywhere.

I thought this post would be about getting rid of tv altogether too. We have been tv free for years... don't miss it at all.

This is hilarious. To all the people worried about tracking dirt in, there is this thing called a doormat. You wipe the dirt off your shoes on it. It sits at the front door.
It must be an american thing... In Australia this is not an issue. I mean, some houses are shoes off, some on, but no one really thinks about it too much.
In my house my boyfriend leaves his at the door (big work boots) and I wear my dainty girly flats all over the house, yes, even in the (gasp) kitchen and bathroom.
I guess I could understand it in a place that snowed, but otherwise, I really don't get what the big deal is.

I googled this amazing designer half the day trying to find more... only a few references on a few other design blogs, her own website (incredible!) and a store that has sold out of everything. Does anyone know where I can buy her stuff online? Most of all I want wrapping papers in the fruity designs. Lovely, gorgeous, fun. That kitchen makes me swoon.

There is no need for a dryer, at all. If you live in a nice warm place, then obviously it is quicker/cheaper to dry outside. If you live in a freezing cold place that snows then you have indoor heating. If you have indoor heating, you can chuck an indoor drying rack in the lounge room for an evening. Sorry to rant, the design above is absolutely lovely.. I have only just discovered that it is a 'cultural' thing with many americans to think they *need* a dryer.

Me too shanalulu! Appalled! I grew up with tank water, in rural australia where droughts are frequent. If we stayed in 5 mins it was a crime. More like about 2-3 was allowed. If you wanted to wash your hair you were expected to turn off the water while you did so. Leg shaving was never, ever done while water was running. I have running water now, but still dont have long showers. I can't believe people can even try to justify a 20 min shower.
