We originally put our TV on the wall and placed a floating shelf below it for components...this got way too messy with cords, discs and games. We then went with a low profile cabinet (a small mid century find for $50) and placed the TV on top. We put up a black wrought iron curtain rod and hung a vibrant quilt centered behind the TV. The clutter was gone, the cords were hidden by the (quite large) quilt. We painted the wall a contrasting colour and chose a quilt that reflected this colour. Really much better. Good luck!

We also have one of these little gems in our master bedroom. Ours is beside our closet so the door treatments match. With yours beside the window, you have the option of echoing your window treatments. We have installed shallow shelves up high to store treasured books and we measured their height to allow them to fit perfectly on the shelves. The bottom level is where we store gifts for Christmas and other occasions. When I see something great on sale in July, I pop it in our "Present Cupboard" and by the time the holidays roll around I have a nice collection. The kids never peek and always wonder what might be hidden and waiting for them :)
