Bandera, one of my favorite restaurants here in Chicago uses these, but I've never seen anyone there actually USE them this way. I have, however, seen many people - mostly older people - use them in Germany, France, and the US.

We use those with our latex mattress & the architecture bed from Room & Board. I never knew they had a name. I just called them "boards." Haven't had a boxspring in at least 15 yrs. And, for what it's worth, we LOVE the latex mattress from Room & Board. I was worried that it would be hot, but I haven't found that to be the case.

My dog sleeps under the bed & sometimes she takes a toy or treat under the bed. Once she stole an avocado from the kitchen counter & I found the pit & peel under there.

I recently had polenta with sauteed mushrooms, parmesan & poached eggs for breakfast. I've also had shrimp or catfish with grits/polenta for breakfast. I'm not inclined toward a sweet breakfast, but I found these meals to be delicious! I like just a bowl of grits or polenta with cheddar cheese & some crumbled bacon, as well.

This was a really easy soup to make & tasty, too. My only editorial comment is that I'd roast the broccoli a lot longer than 10 minutes if you want it to have browned edges like the photo shows. Mine was just starting to show this at the 15-minute mark. Still, it is easy & delicious!

I'm thinking maybe all that white helps with seasonal affective disorder during those long winters? I'm attracted to the ScandiMod look & wonder if it's because of my Norwegian mother's influence or the fact that winters are long & dark in Wisconsin, where I grew up. Love the blonde birch & maple wood furniture that I associate with Scandinavian Modern.

One of my friends asked me to post this...

I feel your pain. I had horrible issues this summer with soundproofing in my bedroom.
My neighbors had a screaming newborn which made sleeping in my bedroom
impossible. I talked to them, but they did not seem to care. I combed through
numerous websites and educated myself on soundproofing. My problem ended up being
flanking noise coming across my window. Ultimately I had to cover up my window 7” and reduced the noise by about 95%. I also created an air pocket in between my old wall and new wall, used sound proof putty to cover all the outlets and any other metal junction boxes etc. I used mass loaded vinyl, and soundproofing drywall.

The other posts are correct in that you need to fill the gaps. They make a
soundproofing putty which might be something to use in the gaps.
Did you create an airpocket in between your walls prior to adding the drywall?
The airpocket is key. It does sound like you have flanking noise coming from the metal
by the timbers. I had a great contractor and we worked through the issues together.
Your problem is unique as you cannot put drywall over your timbers. Caulking
every inch of gap where the walls and ceiling connect is also very important.

The contractor I used was David Synder 773-671-9018. I actually interviewed 3 and
picked him. Very professional and precise. Good luck!

I live in Chicago with the el literally running by every 5 minutes about 35-50 feet from my windows. It can be very loud, but you can do things to reduce noise, regardless. We have upholstered walls, added floor to ceiling bookshelves, hung lots of textiles on the walls, and carpeted our bedroom. Rugs help, even if they are on your own floors. We also have a 4-poster bed that I've hung more fabric from.

In my building, I can actually hear stuff from 3-5 floors up because a lot of sound travels through shared pipes, ductwork, etc. I literally can hear conversations between people quite clearly if I'm in my bathroom & neighbors above me are also in their bathroom, talking 3 floors above...

On another note, since this is a condo, there is probably an association that could intervene on your behalf, perhaps less emotionally than you can do yourself. I'm sort of a hothead & I would tend to drop this kind of issue on the association, to see if they could help.

Finally, how about earplugs, white noise machine, etc?

Maggie makes sure that she gets "her half of the bed" even though there will then be 3 of us in the bed. We love it when she sleeps with us, but she doesn't always grace us with her presence. She tends to sleep on her own bed for most of the night, on most nights.

My immediate response is that it is a valet. Like the first person says, it looks to be a very simple/crude one. The shelves were used for cufflinks, watch, etc. You used it to air out your suit so that it didn't have to be dry cleaned as frequently.

I'm guessing that you may have trash pick up more than once per week. You might want to check on that, depending on the size of the bldg, you could easily have daily trash pick up. If not, the smell could be a much bigger problem than the noise. Also, if you have trash chutes in your bldg, that is a noisy thing at any time that people could use them...
