Definitely a sleeping porch!

You know what would be ideal? A sleeping porch with a fireplace.

Hey - that last picture is my kitchen (where I'm sitting right now). Thanks!

In reality, the color is stronger than it looks on my computer. Like pea soup, or kiwi. It's called "Shakespeare" and it's by Glidden...

I really love that green clawfoot bathtub. That's a great bathroom.

Unfortunately, in this case, what I want (bare) and what I will always have (tons of stuff) are two totally different things...

koshin - I think those bookcases are from IKEA. When I met my husband, he had one bookcase - same style, different finish - hung the exact same way above his bed...but about 2 feet lower. It looked great, but after I hit my head on it the 10th time, it came down.

As for pillows, I think great in theory, not so much in practice. Every extra pillow means an extra pillowcase to wash...

And reasonable, too!

I love Trina Turk clothes. I have this fantasy of regularly dressing to match my house. Not that it ever happens, but this could, potentially, motivate me to get out of the yoga pants and into something cute...

This is probably a personal thing, but I learned early on that working on the sofa was not for me. Even with the TV off, I sink too far in and end up reading blogs instead of working. Plus, I need a flat surface to spread out.

When I first started working from home (5 years ago) I really needed dedicated work space - just psychologically. Now, I have a desk and I can work there, or I can work at my kitchen island, but unless I'm working on something pretty mindless, the sofa is out.

Wish I lived in SF...

Well, one should never doubt the word of one's Trader Joe's checker.

So true. What is it about TJs that attracts such totally wise checkers?

I'm a little bit biased - I'm a "friend of Houzz" - but I agree with kimmiller that it serves a different purpose than AT. I like to use it to look for ideas around a specific problem I'm having. For example, one of my ideabooks is all about railings because I'm looking for railing ideas for my deck. The search function and focus on specific design elements make Houzz a good brainstorming tool for me...

Sounds like a REALLY fun weekend!

It's not exactly the same, but the weekend before Thanksgiving, on Friday night we hosted our annual Mock Thanksgiving party for about 12 people (all of the food, none of the family-related stress).

The day of the party, we got a phone call from out-of-town friends asking if they could stay with us on Saturday night (good enough friends that it was absolutely an OK request). In between, we had a 2-year old's birthday party to attend.

We didn't cook on Saturday night - ordered in instead - but it was still a busy weekend, hostessing-wise. So much fun, though.

And I can vouch for the "having a clean house" point! That's one big thing off the entertaining to-do list...

I think this is really cute. But then, I tried to make an Eames Case Study gingerbread house this year.

It didn't exactly turn out as nicely as this one.
