"Artwork traded with friends"... that is a Francis Alys drawing in photo 5! Worth major bucks. I wish I had famous artist friends with which to trade work. Beautiful house. I would love a shot of the exterior. Any house tour with chihuahuas in it is good enough for me!

I really like this look, although I've never used it, but I want to point out that supergluing a bracket to the back of a plate is a bad idea - superglue will only last so long, and eventually it will come crashing to the floor. You get special plate hangers that you can screw to the wall, that support the plate from the bottom and sides.

I agree contact paper looks cheap. It CAN work, if you are deliberately going for a kitsch look. But it doesn't sound like that's what you're going for.

Amazing! Personally I could never live like this, as I'd be constantly afraid of knocking stuff over and breaking it (especially in the front hallway). If I had all these collections, I'd apply for a grant to start an actual little museum (not in my home) so that the public can enjoy it. But if she likes actually living with it (and she does have 7 rooms), good for her! Love the collection of single gloves (I have always been intrigued by how many you find all over the city) and the painting on the ceiling.

Gorgeous. I grew up in Cape Town and there are so many beautiful homes there, its great to see them featured more and more on AT. I especially love how this home feels really lived in, and not obsessively cleaned up for the photos - you can see the slightly wilted flowers, bottles of sunblock left out etc, which is how all of our homes really look day to day, not staged for a shoot.

That is the most gigantic NYC studio I have ever seen. Well done on such a great find (though I don't even want to know what your rent must be). Your bedroom is absolutely gorgeous. The thing that makes me most jealous is that its sound-proofed - amazing! I have to listen to my upstairs neighbour walking around in her high heels at 2am, even though I have repeatedly asked her not to, and my downstairs neighbour starts playing his techno music at 7am. What I would do for thicker floors/ceilings/walls. Sigh.

I think this really works in some rooms, like the entryway, bedroom and bathroom, but in the kitchen, the stove standing alone just looks weird to me. And there is no counter space! But I suppose she has what she needs. It feels like a beach house to me. I think the rooms with the white wooden floors look great, but where there seems to be linoleum tiling it just looks sort of dirty. Also, things like the lamp on the floor and the picture frames resting against the wall (no doubt a deliberate choice) combined with the spareness make it look like she just moved in and hasn't finished unpacking. But overall it looks very restful.

Why is he sleeping in the crack between 2 twin mattresses? Yeah the blob creeping into bed is pretty disturbing. This guy is definitely serial killer material.

I don't think you're supposed to paint flat over gloss. But maybe I'm wrong. Looks great though! I'm inspired to do something similar.

What about the new table on the right in the first photo (which is lovely)? Was it just moved in from another room and that's why it didn't cost anything?

I totally understand why some people hate American Apparel. I agree that they are nauseatingly trendy and if you buy that skirt/hoodie/leggings you will look like every other hipster in the city. And their ad campaigns annoy me too. And they ARE expensive. That said, I truly admire their labor policies, paying fair wages and giving benefits to their workers (and supporting positive immigration reform), which is very rare in the garment industry, so for that reason I think their prices are justified and people should support them. I also love the way their stores look, with all the different colours, even if I'm not such a fan of their individual items.

I've been trying to cut down on sugar and use agave nectar instead. Does anyone know if it can be used in baking as a substitute for sugar, and if so do you use the same measurements?

do you know if the inside of the sink is curved? my apartment came with a similar looking sink that is completely rectangular on the inside and I have to be constantly wiping it clean as stuff gets stuck in the corners because it doesn't just run down the drain. so beware.

Does anyone's desk look like this in real life? Mine is always just a mountain of papers waited to be filed.
