With reference to the commment about the top of the BatRest being too high, the height is adjustable by moving the arms in an out. The closer they are the more the item leans back. That will solve your problem, as well as allowing the iPhone to work with the additional thickness of many cases. Some cases are, however, just the wrong shape to work.

With reference to the comment about the Blackberry, the unit is only designed to accomodate items in landscape mode mainly for watching videos, so it will not support a Blackberry 8800 which has a portrait format. Unfortunately, it will not support the Blackberry Storm either because of the shape of the Blackberry Storm's edge.
