I featured a few of the Tarrytown Usonia homes on my blog (when they were for sale). You can check out the pictures here: Frank Lloyd Wright's Usonian Houses American Style |

Love the cabinets--don't touch them!!!! I'd paint the walls a brighter, cooler color--maybe a mint green actually. And (when you can afford it) a dark gray or black countertop--concrete or a stone--with a lip (in lieu of a backsplash). What Colors Will Work for Kitchen Renovation? Good Questions |

Sitting in the old silos and looking uuuuuuuup is a great experience! Its a pretty place--and has loads of great classes and programs almost every day, not too mention a great farmers market. But it is a bit too faux-country perfect. You can get a similar experience a little farther north at Muscoot Farm, which has animals, lots of program, a good market on Sundays, and nice hiking trails--but a very pedestrain snack bar. (You can get a nice meal 5 minutes away in Katonah.) http://muscootfarm.org/ Escape to Stone Barns The Stone Barns Center for Food & Agriculture | Apartment Therapy New York#comments |

Still being a jerk. Use the term "window treatment" and no one will think you're talking about blinds. Trust me. Even AT doesn't use the term to include blinds--hence the inclusion of a photo of windows with blinds in a post on not having window treatments! I totally agree with the consensus--less stuff is more, but more space is more too. I've been putting a lot of stuff (chotchkes and knick knacks and what nots) in closets and then rotating what I put out. Keeps things clean and uncluttered--and changing the chotckes every now and then keeps things fresh. Is Less More? | Apartment Therapy DC#comments |

"Rooms That Work Without Window Treatments" ?!?!?!? You must be kidding me!! I've never seen a room that didn't work without window treatments--and I've never seen a room that did work with them! Rooms That Work Without Window Treatments Roundup | Apartment Therapy New York |

Living in a 1740's farmhouse, it's the "flaws" that make the house. The ceilings are low, so we have low furniture. The floors rise and fall as much as 8 inches in a room, so some furniture looks likes its on the Titanic post-iceberg. The ceilings rise and fall too, so pictures never look "straight." Its the house of a million angles. I love it to death. How Do You Embrace Your Home's Imperfections? | Apartment Therapy San Francisco |

hurly03, I too have noticed a move toward the $2,000 outdoor chair. Which is a little freaky for AT. CBH, yes thats a good idea for zipping up boring plastic chairs. I currently have a host of those plastic "Adirondak" chairs from Kmart or wherever, but I would like something thicker and more comfortable. But there really must be some okay plastic chairs that cost more than $9.99 but far less than $300!! I think the nice wooden LL Bean Adirondack's that I have didn't even cost that much. OK, I appreciate that you threw in the two cheap dining chairs, but $300, $800, and $2,000 for outdoor chairs? Why is a plastic chair $300 bucks? Annoys me to no end!! Pretty Painted Outdoor Furniture | Apartment Therapy DC |

I like her, but "Bang for Your Buck" is the Satan of home design shows, encouraging home owners to make their homes look totally identical, average, and soulless. Monica has become a big proponent of granite islands, stainless appliances, his-and-her sinks, and all that is wrong with America. She once took points off a kitchen for being "too mid-century modern"--but it was in a totally MCM house, so no one who didn't love MCM would ever consider buying that house!! Ugh, I detest that show! Apartment Therapy Interviews: Monica Pedersen | Apartment Therapy New York |

I have high-gloss paint on some ceiling in my house. My ceilings are generally 6'5" and the gloss makes the surface reflective and gives a lot of extra "depth" to it. The ceilings feel a lot higher than they do in the rooms with matte paint. In a room with painted beams, the beams are high-gloss and the rest of the ceiling is matte--that works well, too. Nice. As the owner of a 1700's farmhouse (1740) I have to say this one has a lot of details for the era. Mine and most I've seen are much simpler and lacking in ornamentation. We've furninshed ours in a mix of country pieces and mid-century Danish--anything with a simple line and sense of "purity." Our house is a lot less perfect than this one--no wall or floor is a straight angle--but I love the era!
