The individually frozen thing sounds like a good tip to me. For whatever reason I always sort of instinctively massage the bags when I buy peas and I never buy the ones that are lumpy. We eat a ton of peas and I've never had a problem.

Also totally agree with the folks who are cooking for a short period of time and with indirect heat. We eat peas as a side dish probably once a week or so and I usually just pour a kettle of boiling water over them, let them sit for a minute, rinse with cold water and then dress with a shallot vinaigrette. Also one of my favorite snacks....

@artfemme11 - so sorry to hear about your barking sandwich! We had a similar situation with our dog (not much of a barker and never has been) and a neighbor dog (SUPER barker at everything). The neighbors ended up getting one of those citronella collars and it really has worked wonders. If things get really desperate and they're still not taking the initiative, maybe you can just send them one? You can get them on Amazon for like $35 and it might be worth the investment.

Thirding the recommendation for tapioca. I use tapioca basically everywhere that calls for cornstarch (don't even keep cornstarch on hand really...) and have never had a problem.

Try them glazed, too! We also had this problem with our CSA a couple of years back and glazed was my favorite of the various options we tried. I think I used this recipe:

I third the vote for panna cotta. I think custards will work too, but there's always the risk that you'll get too much egg flavor vs. the vanilla. Panna cotta = cream + vanilla. GREAT way to spotlight the vanilla.

We had the Capresso for years and really liked it (but definitely had to boil a few cycles to get rid of the plastic smell). After about five years of regular, daily use, it was starting to slow down ... and then we accidently left it at a vacation rental. Whoops.

Now we have this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0045O4XOG/ref=oh_details_o06_s01_i02

For those of you looking for all metal, no plastic (not even a little window or spout) this is the kettle for you. The indicator is a small metal tab thing on the inside of the kettle. It's a little loud, but it's made in the states and there's no plastic, so we are pretty big fans. We've had it for about three months, so far so good.

Buffalo Trace is a great distillery with beautiful grounds and an awesome selection of bourbons. I did a tour there with industry once and it was awesome. So happy to see it on the list.

When we do a biiiiig family celebration (i.e. the entire extended family, which amounts to almost 50 people) we do a turkey because enough people are there to eat it and we use the carcass to make soup the next day. But when it’s just our immediate area family (about ten of us, plus kids) it’s not worth it. We don’t love eating turkey leftovers enough. Plus we have a great recipe for bacon-wrapped pork tenderloin that I’ve been making for a few years now that’s become something of a tradition. Pork feels autumnal enough and it’s way more delicious than turkey!

Seriously. This baby shower totally wins the internet for the day. I'm crossing my fingers that when my sister eventually gets knocked up the timing will be right to steal the idea!

Ha! We have the Malm. We bought the Prince Lionheart corner guards someone mentioned up thread loooong before we had our baby (now 15 months). I bonked myself on the edges so many times I needed the corner guards to save my legs!

Better yet, get your hands on some Chartreuse VEP. It'll set you back significantly more ($175-200) but it's sooooo good and it would probably last forever... if you could keep it that long.

I think bourbon and I think southern food... Ham biscuits, pimento cheese (which you could put on some GF crackers or something), maybe some pulled pork/corn bread/collards/baked beans?

I can't believe there are only five comments to this post... I made this the other night and, with a few modifications (the addition of a cup of oats instead of flour, using all whole wheat flour instead of AP), it will be replacing my go-to crisp recipe. This recipe is awesome. Awesome I say!

Or, if you're super cheap/poor... buy some budget yarn (Cascade 220 is a great starter yarn) and some budget needles and teach yourself! There are tons of videos on youtube and ravelry.com is a great (free) resource, too.

If you want to go the class route... I highly highly recommend a sock class. I took one at another LYS when I was living in Philadelphia and it was great. Sock-knitting skills are really useful because they can be applied to a lot of different kinds of projects and even in a basic sock class you learn a LOT.

@abby: yaaaaay! After I finished season 1 (what seems like oh so long ago...) I was devastated to find out that I'd have to wait until January 2012 for season 2. Blerg. At least now I know I'm waiting for something awesome!

Not a window, but our solution might work: we have a furnace in our main room that gets pretty hot and has nasty corners. We ultimately ended up just putting a gate around it and using the space around it for random storage of non-flamable things.... You could put a short gate around the window and then maybe place hanging storage within the gate so you don't lose the space. Good luck!

I third the rec for Jeni's. My sister in law and her family live in Ohio and they get credit for introducing us, but hubs is now a bonafide addict... he got Jeni's for father's day and I think that may be an annual tradition.
