My instant reaction was "oh YUCK now they look like everyone else." That may not be entirely accurate, but I don't like the design now.

There are a lot of sites that look good with the center-column layout but AT is one where I really prefer having the left-column layout (i.e., main content in left column).

In the winter, my clothes get a lot of static unless I use fabric softener (during the summer, I don't use any softener at all, and there isn't any static). Any idea what causes this, or how to prevent it? I'd much rather skip the softener all together.

I love it, love the understated color. Where did you get the pillows on the bed? And wonderful way to echo the pillows in the art above. (yes, that pic just went in my Style folder).

I realize this post is old but wanted explain something. The lady I gave the Teflon pots to: I discussed my concerns about the Teflon with her. She stated she understood that, but would accept the risk based on the pans she currently had were worse. Having had little choice at one point but to cook on old pans that were burning through the bottom (until I was gifted a better set), I can understand her point and she is aware of my concerns. I did not post the pots open to freecycle; I gave them directly to someone I know from the list who asked for them.

jonathonb - thank you for the items you found.

Lovely home! Really neat, too, to have the old pictures of it. I find things have more meaning when you know the stories they come with (i.e., their history).

Thanks for posting pics of the new bridge. We lived on Treasure Island Naval Base in the late 80's, so I was on the Bay Bridge frequently.I had to move back east right after that quake; it's nice to see the new bridge go up.

And you're right, the views are wonderful!

As far as the longevity of wooden bassinets/cribs....

The one my daughter slept in: So did my mother, as an infant; also me, my nieces, nephew, aunts, uncle, and assorted cousins. It's running about 50 years old and still in use. It has been taken care of, and had no safety issues. My grandmother keeps it, and is called when someone needs it.

Harvest, for me, is the scent and taste of winter squash and apples: fresh pumpkins and squashes baking, or canned for winter goodies; apple pies, spiced cider, fresh apples tart on the tongue.

Eve in Hochelaga - while I've never had to clean couch leather, for my leather jackets I use saddle soap -Kiwi brand is good - and then put on mink oil for conditioning/waterproofing. I do this about once yearly. The kiwi items can be found near leather shoes, or you can check places that sell horse tack and see what you can find (cleaning tack is where I learned leather care). Also, in the tack stores they used to have one-step cleaning products you could use for general cleaning when you want more than wipe-with-damp-cloth.

To hide the cat scratches, I'm not sure... I know that if you use neats foot oil (another kind of conditioner), it darkens the leather just a tiny bit...maybe paint the scratches with it? hmm...

If we have a winner today we won't get to see the rest. With a start like this one, tho, I *want* to.

Yes, this has my vote.

Love the accent on the wall above the couch!

Christine (the one in DC) - my landing strip is our kitchen table and the top of a DVD shelf next to it. Cell chargers and key holders are right there. By using the kitchen table I am *forced* to put things away ASAP (personal pet peeve: Kitchen table must be clear if it's not in use for something).

Your Cure sounds like mine - no cash and not really the problems he is talking about. Do what you can, and use the extra time to research your furniture: longevity, ease of use/upkeep, ease of moving it later, etc.

That said - any one had experience with Crate & Barrel beds? I found one we both like (Giselle? link is at home) and want to make sure it's sturdy. Cats, child, big move later, etc. It will get abused.

At one point, I said I was gonna do a one-room Cure on the Master Bedroom. So:

On Friday night, I sorted out some books and got rid of a few, put others away elsewhere. Saturday I re-arranged the 'annoying' wall in the master bedroom, hung the print, and hung a painting we'd been keeping in the closet till we found where to hang it. Doing all this freed just enough space to properly put away things that had been under the couch, so that was done.

Now, I'm starting in on the main room. The bedroom looks SO much better, it's amazing, and makes me feel bad about the living room. So that is next. We are *definitely* getting a couch in the spring, though.

I know I haven't posted any pics, but all I have right now is a my cell phone for taking them. I can post those if anyone would like me to? When I get the wire (eventually) for the dig cam, I can upload before pics of the bedroom.

Kitchen gets streamlined everytime I cook. And the holidays are coming :D

major budget option, while contemplating, say the computer armoire ... Use a grey sheet to hide the cords. Will work for the nonce while you debate/work on the other much better ideas. I'm not saying hide the wood, just attach it to the visible side there.

The delicious yummy stock I made earlier this week, had celery tops, carrot and onion ends, part of a local-grown tomato, a couple beef pieces, a chicken breast, and I think a couple other things. I save things like you mentioned, using one of my quality tupperware containers (very reusable, therefore also easier to train family members - 'put the shreds in this one, ty!'). Whenever it fills up, I make stock.

When the stock is made, I use silicone muffin pans and freeze it. The ice-stock pops right out in cooking-sized blocks, easy for everyone to use. Also easy to measure - I think it's about a half-cup each. I used to buy stock. I got better doing this, and now I have piles of stock in the freezer.

Also - when I make slow cooker roast beef, the juices get saved as beef stock.

robilu, I've seen 3-way CFLs but they can be hard to find. The first place I saw them, was a small local hardware shop, so I would suggest just stubbornly looking for them.

One thing I just learned that I didn't realize... putting regular CFLs in a dimmable light is a fire hazard. Whoops. Switched that back already!

At $15 ea, it's not feasible for us switch that (5-bulb) fixture in our apartment to the dimmable CFLs. Instead I am working to reduce the need to use it for general lighting; the bulbs I had intended to use for it are being used instead to change most of the rest of the lamps. (3 more bulbs, and the entire house will be switched other than that one fixture).

If we owned the place, or were going to stay for several years, it would be different... but for a year or two, I'm just not going to worry about it.

*michelle* - I'm so sorry for your loss.

For color scheme, my suggestion is to use two variants on a base. i.e., room 1 is red with green accent and room 2 is pale green with red accent, and both with a warm grey main color.

The shared colors tie the areas together, and using different 'strengths' of each helps identify them as separate 'rooms'.

Actually, for the tub Scrubby bubbles can't get it all out. Then again, I do tend to have an extra-dirty tub on a regular basis.

What I do is scrub with baking soda and then rinse with vinegar. Works great, cleans the pipes as a bonus, and it's spotless. Gets the dirt out of scratches in the old ceramic tub at the old place; also got off everything the bubbles left behind. It's green and cheaper; I don't use the bubbles any more now.

I second the Traders Joes all purpose. Nice green color in the bottle and smells like cedar.

Aulaire - if you are on a renegage cure can I join you? My curing has been sporadic. I did discover a cure for the office area(new desks and file cabinet, found the ones to get); now I just need the money for it. I switched half the house to CFLs and will get the rest next payday; I made vegetable/chicken soup today in the slow cooker and bought pie pumpkins so I can make fresh puree for cooking. The house was scrubbed today, I will finish that tomorrow.

I've also discovered that my desk is too short for me, which makes me slouch to be at the right height... so I will be raising it somehow, and likely will need it for the next one as well.

Loft lady (sorry, forgot your name & can't find it) if you are going to move in a year, skip the loft unless you can do it inexpensively. When I left the comment in Flickr (Ldy Tara) I thought you would be there longer.

I feel badly behind, I must admit. We've only been in our home since mid-June, so the kitchen is under control and in constant use.

Progress so far: I identified the areas most in need of help: the front coat closet, the office area, and our bedroom. And a new couch (a shorter one!) would help, but that will take awhile so it's not part of the Cure. The bedroom is the same - needs new furniture, so will have to mostly wait.

I've been able to update the Style Folder I have at Flickr, and I took down everything from last year as it's a new place all together. I haven't been able to add any pictures of our place, but hopefully I'll be able to this weekend - I need the cord to connect the digital camera to the computer first.

I'm glad to see the progress everyone is making!
