WHAT, no band-aid colored plastic vertical blinds??!!! LOLOL

This will be cool, I can't wait to watch the transformation!!

@emilycharette; LOLOL poor parents!! you should do them a favor and accidentally knock it off the wall! ;)

@RKTRIX; i've lived in a condo (built in 1972) in Miami for almost 20 years and never had to get permits for anything, except for the AC replacement (even for that, the building management takes care of it with the AC company and i just pay the city fee).
I think we have sound proof concrete floors/walls down here.

A good idea for the floor might be to pull out that carpet and do like i am, figure out the cheapest, quickest, easiest way to either polish or coat it with something to keep the concrete. If you like the look of course...
I've never heard extra noise and no one has ever complained about me (i'm on the 8th floor).
And as a super bonus, i swear it keeps the rooms at least 10 degrees cooler!!!

If not, why not laminate flooring? i remember reading about some underlayments that are made to reduce sounds.

And as for the ceiling, I say GO FOR IT BABY!! Take that S**T off!! I don't think asbestos was used in the 80s and you could just do yourself!!
I did my ceiling in the LR/DR and kitchen. Um yes, it took me over 3 weeks LOL!! but i'm super slow and had no experience, but mostly because i'd repainted it several times over the years in high gloss so it was WAY harder to scrap off than normal, chalky, regular sparkly popcorn!
But it was soooo worth it!
I did have to hire someone to come in and smooth out all the gouges i made all over the place, with that Spackle stuff. But then I painted it in super high gloss white mixed with a little pink paint. It really surprised me just how much brighter the whole space is now!!

Have fun and i'll be watching!! :)

She used to pick me up from school, 9th grade (first year at a new high school) at the front entrance, in front of EVERYONE!!!
Maybe you can tell i'm still traumatized!?

Kathryn, O at home is gone!
i have to say O was really an awsome mag. it featured a lot of well priced decor and furnishings, and pretty stories.
IMO, it was even more informative than Domino; just a different style.
and i really loved O at Home too. i got pretty upset about it folding cas Oprah could aford to keep it up if she wanted too...
Domino and O were my 2 favorites :[

TheGoodBiGirl,
i personally understand your irritation with miss-spellings and poor grammar. if i find something like that in a book or magazine it drives me freakin bananas and makes it hard for me to move on!! seriously! it's bad:)
but, this is a blog. it's not edited to be perfect nor did you pay for it. and i think it's kinda rude for you to criticize anyone. especially if you know what they are talking about.

nice job on the table. but like most of the others i liked the old look too... but i still love the glossy red too, i can't decide!!

Don't hate on Brad because he has the money to spend more for professionals! Jesus H Christ!?!
Maybe he worked and saved up!!!!

Brad, your apt is the S**T!!!
Especially the architecture. The dark moldings are so beautiful and dramatic...love them, so european. I want THEM!!!

I live in a 70s condo and i think they figured the water view was the architecture. I mean the baseboards are a scrawny 2 inches wide!!!!!!!!LOL

i wouldn't and don't buy commemorative plates. and i really don't like when people hang plates on walls. IMO plates are for eating.
i think the poster was really nice. if i had like a basement or mudroom, maybe i'd hang the poster for decor.

but, i voted hot for these plates cas they are different and modern.

Domino was the 1st magazine i ever subscribed to. i loved the pretty pictures and interesting ideas. some things were way out of my financial league, but at least they priced it so i knew. And That alone is pretty unique for shelter mags. I can't stand it when there's NO price of something in other magazines!!
So there, all you Domino Haters!!!;)

i still have most of my copies, and plan on keeping them for my great, great grandchildren!!! :)

PS. i predict with all the apparent support for this particular mag; not so much for other defunct mags, Domino will be back!!!

omg, i bought a huge and heavy/really thick flokati about 4 years ago. i'd never seen one in person but it looked soft and it was all natural and from what i saw online it looked silky or something. i was haveing a baby and i needed something soft and comfortable on the tile floor. well when it came; 14'x11' i think and about $700, it was so heavy i had my door dude help me lay it down..it didn't look like what i thought it would. kinda rough, and not silky, and WORSE i kept getting fuzz in my eyes!!!!!!!!! every single day i'd be inthe bathroom rubbibg my eyes... it was really freakin horrible. then i thought if i just had it cleaned before the baby came the fuzz would slow. so after reading all over the internet about how easy it was to wash it...well i couldn't put it into any washer i'd ever seen, and i could hardly hang it over the patio to even shake it, much less try and wash it in the bath. it would have weighed 100lbs! so, finely i dropped it off at some design district rug shop to have them clean it, even thinking that it would turn out more silky and thus more like i really thought it would be. a couple days later and $330 poorer i came out with the same old thing!!!!!!!!!! hated it! but, i think the owner felt a little bad for ripping me off so much she did give me a pink suzani pillow i showed intrest in as a parting gift... anyway, anyone in miami want a huge FLOKATI, just cleaned, and hardly used email me at miamidecor@yahoo.com :)

i did a lot of research on vacs before buying the bright green Oreck 3 years ago. i was having my baby and have 4 cats so i really wanted the best.

i think it is superior to other brands at the mid price range. it did come w/a canister vac with plenty of attachments that work great, and a fancy iron, but i haven't tried it.

i use it on thick shaggy wall-to-wall carpeting and on tile... oh and pick up kitty litter and sand off tile floor. so i really like it. when i tried to pick up stuff like that with my regular vacuum it would just blow the sand and stuff around.

Sara, i love it! it is very European/contemporary. my family is from germany, and it reminds me of the younger generations' homes and apartments of sweeden, germany and england. it's very calm and clean! and i happen to love the re-use of your dining table, there is nothing wrong w/ it and you really showed your creativity by throwing a linen cloth and traditional services. and that's what i call real life design.
:)
in my early 70's condo one wall is mirrored. i did a floor to ceiling open-backed bookcase, thinking that the mirror wouldn't be so bad. but, it ended up looking too busy, so down they went.
i think soon, i'll be following your example of dealing w/ mirrored walls!!!!
