This looks great...similar to a curry veggie soup I make on the stove, but happy to have a slow-cooker version! And my suggestion for other slow-cooker recipes - LOVE the Cook's Illustrated Slow-Cooker Cookbook. A bunch are veggie/vegan friendly and all are tasty tasty

One more I haven't seen - if you have dietary restrictions, it is up to you to let the host know far in advance! I have a severe gluten allergy, I always follow this rule. Even if I've stayed with someone before it's good to offer a reminder...I can't count the number of times I've had someone say "oh right, thanks for the reminder" and then I can eat the food and they don't feel awkward that they didn't make anything I can eat. And if you have an allergy or dietary restriction that is unworkable, you can offer to bring your own food...

I have been growing tomatoes in one of these Topsy Turvy planters for the last 6 weeks. It is doing great!! I have at least 70 tomatoes coming in and we're early for the season. You can see a picture of my plant at http://jasonapartment.shutterfly.com/38. What's more, I never thought it would work given that I have northern exposure in an English basement front lot that only gets a couple hours of direct sun each day (the rest of my plants - beans, eggplant, peppers, squash, cucumbers - are also doing well in their containers). And best of all, I get compliments about once a week from people walking by on the street who've never seen one up close before. :-)

hmmm...i wonder if you could add finally chopped bits of dried strawberry to the batter? by the time they baked they would be moist but dried fruits don't fall apart like fresh ones when baking.

I''m also thinking you might be able to use a bit of pomegranate juice or beet juice to add some deeper pink color to the cake - I've had luck with both keeping their color through the baking process...

off to experiment!

Just made these and I love them. I didn't have any loose leaf tea left so I ripped open bags of Tazo Citron Black Tea - took four tea bags for the steeping and two tea bags in the dry ingredients. Also didn't have any lemon so I used lime zest which turned out nice.

Lastly, after a dozen muffins I ran out of muffin liners, so I used the last bit of batter and made six "scones" by rolling the dough into balls (about 2 tbsp each) and baking them on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper the same way as the muffins. They turned out great as well, in fact I like the slightly harder smooth "crust" even better than the muffins!
