Hi guys,
Amazing. What you've done took such creativity, vision, and persistence. Charles Darwin would be at home in your living room, and so would I. This is really memorable, in a great way.

This is one of the coolest places I've ever seen on Apartment Therapy, and that's saying a lot. Truly inspirational.

Hi guys! I just wanted to tell you that after going over all of the Small Cool entries, your place really stands out to me. I really like that your place is uncluttered, yet still has lots of character. You've really chosen wisely when it comes to incorporating stylish and unusual pieces and accents. Everything has balance, simplicity and harmony. Love your yellow door, your great lighting, and your large framed prints. I think people could learn a lot from your place- I wouldn't change a thing!

I also love that purplish paint colour. It's killing me, thinking about where I can work it into my decor. You really have some inspirational stuff here, Alex- great place!

This is great, Leah. Hollie Golightly would be proud! I love the print.

Things that always take longer than you think (and I will never do again if I can help it): removing wallpaper, and painting kitchen cabinets.

Hi Richard, I especially like how you dealt with all your books, tv, etc. Media and books can often be problematic, and you got just the right balance of utility, storage and decoration. Love the credenza, love the shelves, love the midcentury vases, etc. Good job!

What a great space, architecturally-speaking, and you've complimented it perfectly with your mid-century furniture and decor. I love the white walls. I'm living in an apartment with crappy browny-beige painted walls, and I'd give anything for them to be airy and white.

Very pretty apartment, and a stunning view- well done, Annette! Something I thought of as I was reading your write-up: if you like your kitchen as-is, maybe leave it. I think a lot of charm has been lost forever in kitchen and bathroom renovations.

Yep, sorry- I feel like it's a disservice to the beautiful wood and aged metal patina of this chair to paint over it. You could have painted pretty much any chair these colours and gotten practically the same look. Why choose this one?

These are really cool, although I keep hearing my mom's voice: "Somebody's gonna have to clean around all those little bumps and cracks, and it's not going to be me."

I know you're getting all kinds of conflicting advice, but what the hey, here's mine: the painted stone will just look bad, no matter what colour. Stucco is probably going to look horrible. The stone, in my opinion, doesn't look that bad, especially because your neighbour on the right has it. I say, live with it for a while longer, and meanwhile save the money that you would have spent on paint, etc. and put it towards removing the stone someday and exposing the brick. Perhaps it will be expensive, but it will be worth it. By the way, the thing that draws my eye the most is that skinny bar in the middle of your porch. I know it's there for a reason, but if there's any way to disguise or get rid of that, fantastic. And getting rid of the wrought iron that's painted white would help too. It seems to be pulling your stone into the "grandma" esthetic. Anyhoo, that's my two cents, feel free to ignore if you disagree, and enjoy your house! Overall, it's lovely!

Totally agree, greyny and ali07. There's no question this house is beautiful, as are a lot of old plantation houses, but certain things have to be acknowledged.
