I live in New Zealand and there the pressure to own is even MORE intense! I felt like an utter failure still renting at 30. we have bought now, and while I like the feeling of OWNING something and being able to make changes (except we cant afford to make changes!) I am also overwhelmed sometimes by the debt we are now into. Renting somehow seemed less complicated. We could just leave if situations changed or opportunities came up. And it wasn't our responsibility to check out that weird nose or mystery leak. We may have still been living paycheck to paycheck at times but at least we didn't owe anybody anything. I love owning. But I loved renting too and there is nothing wrong with that :)
