this is a fairly sparse post...as in, where's the photos of the kitchen and bathroom? the space is certainly tiny so i would love to see what you've done with the rest of the apartment!

as long as the mementos are in a box and tucked away, then it's not a problem for me. the only issue i had with an ex was when the entire apartment had been designed by my boyfriend's ex. from the bed to the shelves to the bathroom sink. traces of her were everywhere, so where did we draw the line from there? her photos needed to move from under the bed to a box to the storage unit! for a while i'd been sleeping atop all of the photos of the two of them and when i found out, they were immediately removed. my clueless boyfriend at the time was confused as to why i'd be so upset. his ideas were very different from mine. hence, we are no longer together. still friends, though.

agreed with moke076 in that clean up is a pain and that it's best to leave it to the pros with a real frying equipment. i only say this because i'm a fairly seasoned home cook and frying chicken pieces shakes to the bottom of my list of recipes. best best? shrimp! less mess, less worry about whether its cooked through enough for safe consumption and quick.

i love the look of the desk box but i just can't bring myself to trust wall-mounted desks. perhaps it is because i've always lived in apartments with brittle walls where even a thumbtack would cause breakage!

i can imagine that on hot summer days, you wouldn't want to keep any food left to decompose in there. the smells would just waft up from the bottom through the hole in the lid.

to get more juice from a lemon, i firmly (yet gently) press down on the uncut lemon on the counter and roll it a few times under the palm of my hand. this loosens up the juice inside and then however you cut it, there will be less squeezing and more juice to enjoy.

as near as i can tell not everything went wrong. i'm glad you and your dog made it to NYC in one piece and that your apartment looks pretty darn nice (they're even building it to make it even nicer). you experienced a few bumps, but it's all going to sort itself out eventually. in the meantime, buy a few plants and eat take out in the middle of your gorgeous wood floor and enjoy the zen of it all before you're bombarded with boxes and moving detritus!

a heavy weighted curtain would have sufficed and looked softer for sure, but it's an interesting idea.

it depends on the party and the people. generic ice-breakers might be insulting to socially savvy people, so i just talk about something super-relevant. usually i do not find myself in a position to have to break the ice anyway since i'm always late to the party and there's already people in groups talking.

aside from the taxidermy/animal skulls, i'm in love with the light, the jumble of design decor and the plants.

when i used to drink and i'd wake up hungover, i'd need five different kinds of liquids to chase down two alive tablets throughout the day: orange juice, water, coffee, diet coke and more orange juice. a bagel with cream cheese for breakfast and then a greasy lunch would have me feeling normal by 5pm.

i find that if you place greens on both sides of the bread you can avoid sogginess. i'm also a celery naysayer, so this recipe would be perfect without the celery/celery seed. when i'm feeling crazy, i put a little sweet pickle relish in the mix. it's quite a nice balance of savory and sweet.
