Why do I love a chair that I've never sat in? WHHHHYYYYY? BTW: If you haven't seen the Eames documentary, I recommend it.

If you buy a lot of stuff online, or think you will, Prime is awesome. Not having to think about shipping or adding more items to get free shipping is nice. Lately they've been offering some $$ credit for their digital store if you choose "slower shipping". I think the video side of the house will get better in time, but I see it as a bonus to skipping seeing shipping charges.

Built-ins or some sort of faux-built in (Ikea Akrom or Billy) on each side of the fireplace will look the most put-together. Get a heavy duty swiveling TV mount hung at eye level when sitting (I have one from monoprice) -- the tv can swing out when in use and lay flush when hosting.

If the bookcases are way too big of an investment, then adjustable shelving (like Elfa or similar from a hardware store) could go a long way at making everything look uniform. AT has a few examples, like this one: http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/12-edwards-21678

Are those white KRK monitors? They look nice. When building/shopping/designing the built-in for the studio area, make sure you highlight them [monitors] while downplaying your other gear.

I'd knock all that out before upgrading the loveseat.

And sharing a desk sucks, two smaller desks or bust! =)

L-shapes take up more space than they gain you. I have had multiple desk setups, including L and Corner desks. My advice: go vertical and keep less stuff on your actual desk. I like elfa or similar wall mounted, adjustable shelves above the desk. You can keep your desk or swap it, but put your monitor on a shelf at eye level floating above your desk -- this will give you more desk space and be more ergonomic. Add a few shelves above your monitor to house boxes or bins for storage and display items.

Physical media is dead as soon as a cross platform & DRM-free digital format prevails. I am a media pc junkie. The landscape is crawling with competitors and no one has it right yet. For non-techies, I generally recommend Roku boxes. At $80, and a Netflix or Amazon Prime account, it is a lower investment than cable, satellite or a BluRay player with rentals or purchases. It's not for everyone (yet), but it's easy enough for most. AppleTV is also great. I think BluRay is worth skipping.

Third for CrashPlan. It rocks!

I had Mozy, didn't care for it.

Too high maintenance! Why would someone pay a lot of money for a pair of jeans that takes so much more time to care for? For the time and effort you could have less expensive, newer jeans more often.

For tasks I use Wunderlist. It's free, multi-platform, uncomplicated, elegant and syncs quickly.

For grocery lists I use GeeTasks (google tasks), but only because I can fit more items on a screen and I like having it completely separate.

I bought those same plastic bins at IKEA for about $3/ea. I have six of them where I store all my different types of cables and wires. I love it.

GoodReader is the best app for reading Word Docs, Excel and PDFs. Works great in conjunction with MobileMe or Dropbox.

My other top recommendations:

Wunderlist (Free To Do list)
Reeder (news reader)
Instapaper (long article reading)
Evernote (notes/braindumps/scanning everything)

This theory is VERY dubious, also it's SA blog posts are not endorsed by Scientific American.

Radio waves do not cause cancer, this is well established science. And amplified by springs? Where do I begin with the absurdity? By this horrible logic -- a mattress in your house will give you better TV/Radio signal -- which is false.

I am disappointed that Unpluggd has passed along a scare-story with virtually no scientific merit behind it.

Cell phones do not cause or increase the risk of cancer. Please stop perpetuating junk science, it hurts us all.

Many journals have covered this, Skeptoid did a podcast on it too: http://skeptoid.com/episodes/4117
