I'm a big fan of her fabrics. We have a galley kitchen so all of our meals take place in our dining room. I reupholstered our dining room chairs in amy butler's laminated fabric. Cleaning up after my 6 year old daughter and 44 year old husband has never been so easy.

a possible answer to the reason behind your betta's death. i think it was a fatal accident rather than a suicide. bettas are jumpers and have been told not to fill their bowls with water so close to the top to prevent the fish from getting carried away in their exuberance. apparently, they need more surface area to swim back and forth rather than vertical space.
glamorous home, btw.

Our electric can opener was my mother's wedding shower gift from 1969. For some inexplicable reason, my mother gave it to me when I moved out on my own in the 90s. She has since had to replace can openers several times for own home. Donna (my husband named the can opener after my mother) is still going strong despite the fact that it is older than me and outlasted my parents' marriage.

Yep. My daughter has had our old ipod (an original!) in her room since she was 3 months old. She sleeps to "Bubbling Creek." which my husband downloaded off of itunes. It's connected to a speaker and there is no problem with sound quality. It has worked like a charm for the past 5 years. Of course, she's gone without it when we've forgotten it during travels but prefers to fall asleep to her "U-zic."

I went to the blog to read more because something seemed fishy about the dramatic difference. Lo and behold, the before pictures are from the previous owner's decor! Though I'm all for a new coat of paint, this post doesn't make a strong argument that paint makes all the difference.

Those shoes are plastic dress-up shoes. My 5 year old has the same ones. I thought it was a pretty clever display of them since 3 -5 year old girls are usually always in the middle of costume changes.

I don't think any of the rooms are dorm rooms. I clicked on the link to the blog when I recognized John and Sherry's room. The post was about finding inspiration to decorate a dorm room...like using a daybed as John and Sherry have done. I don't believe the blogger was trying to pass any of the photos off as dorm rooms.

for my 5 year old's recent b'day party, i filled the pinata with bouncy balls instead of candy. they provided a great visual when the pinata finally burst. There were plenty to go around too.

If you're doing this event in April or May, a Mothers Day project I always did with my 1st graders may work: a bouquet of hand lilies!
1. Have the children trace their hands 4 or 5 times and cut them out. The hands are the petals of the bouquet
2. wrap only the bottom of each cut out hand around the top of a green pipe-cleaner and staple together. The pipe cleaner is the flower's stem. the top of the hand should fan out (almost like a cone shape)
3. fold the fingers of the hands back so that the hand resembles a lily.
4. tie the flowers together with ribbon and voila! a pretty bouquet to present to weary parents or the hospitalized loved one.

Since she was 2, our 4 (and almost 3/4!) year old daughter has carted Monkey around with her everywhere. If you know Ella, you know Monkey. Monkey has traveled to Disneyworld, Paris and everywhere in between. He even "wrote" a wishlist to Santa and received his "tiny little monkey clothes" but is still waiting for an ipod. We think of him as a member of our family. He is so well-loved that he is getting a little worn around the edges. Since he is a small bla bla sock monkey, i ordered a body double (an exact replica) as a replacement, if necessary, about 6 months ago . Ella likes Monkey's "brother" but he is not Monkey and therefore, relegated to hang out with all her other stuffed toys.

the little guy will outgrow this fascination soon enough so just keep the gate up for now. however, since he likes kerplunking in water and bowls, you could provide him with a play area all his own. Take a simple dish plan and fill with dry cereal like cheerios or puffed wheat, and give him some measuring cups etc. he can pour away and not torture you or the cat.
