Does anyone know of a good tutorial on changing the 70s (80s?) fluorescent light-boxes into an area to hang a pendant light, or recessed lighting, or even track lighting--anything other than what it is. I'd love to make that change in my kitchen. The ceiling in there also slopes, so I have to contend with that. 10 Easy, Low-Budget Ways to Improve Any Kitchen (Even a Rental!) |

I love the indoor/outdoor rug I have in my kitchen. It is dark with a bit of a pattern so dirt doesn't show. I would think a mat underneath for more comfort would work too. Should I Put A Rug In My Kitchen? Good Questions |

It sounds like a lot of icy desserts many asian countries have. If the syrup seemed like coconut, you could make a coconut syrup easily by heating coconut milk and sugar to taste (maybe a cup per can of coconut milk?). Some recipes call for condensed milk. Other desserts even have both the shaved ice and a scoop of ice cream. You can use a combination of fresh and sweetened jarred/canned fruit, depending on what you want. You can't really go wrong here. I would look up icy dessert recipes from different countries--Japan, Vietnam, Philippines, and many others--to get some ideas. I didn't even wait for the weekend to try the butterscotch pudding recipe. I looked at the comments under the recipe and noted that many thought it was too soupy. I also tried the idea of putting actual scotch in it. The bf is lactose intolerant so I had to use soy milk. It came out fabulous and not too soupy (I added just the tiniest bit more corn starch). I would add less scotch next time because it barely comes to a boil and probably doesn't burn off too much alcohol. Still, I thoroughly enjoyed it and could barely wait for it to cool. great job. glad you kept the chairs as they were. The accessories on the mantel are more interesting now too (although I also enjoyed the simple look you were going for previously as well). Foodnetwork's Dinner Impossible show had an episode where Robert Irvine prepares a fakeout dinner for a magician group. I can't remember much, but I do remember something looking like a scoop of ice cream with chocolate sauce and it really was mashed potatoes and gravy.
