Love the cake stand idea! I usually use a bowl, but it ends up by being filled to the brim. This is prettier and easier to keep tidy!

I think previous comments on checking the temperature would be a good starting point. It depends on the heater. I live in Vancouver, and have often placed furniture close to heaters. That being said, I've also had on heater that burned not only my drapes, but my throw pillows and laundry hamper too! Best to be cautious at least.

I agree with that. Definitely one thing to start with amazing bones and architectural detail rather than builder-basic apartments.

I don't usually fall in love with a space right off the bat, but I certainly know how you feel about a past property haunting you. I lived in a loft in downtown Montreal for four months, and a few years later, even now that I'm back in my home town of Vancouver, I still think about it!
