Our tiny Frankfurt apartment (in the West End) was designed by an architect who specialized in figuring out how small rooms could be. Honest. He calculated how small a bedroom could be and still open the door. We had hot running water....in the bathroom. We brought it by bucket to the kitchen. There was a windowless room on a landing which was rented out during trade fairs. Still, the apartment stayed in the hands of a string of friends for years after we left. The great thing was the bakery down the street. Frankfurt isn't great for tourists, but to live there - terrific.
