Why is everyone so down on garages? I miss having a garage. Scraping snow off my car, walking out to it in the rain, and getting in it after it bakes in the summer sun can be a drag.

If it doesn't face the street, don't you have to cover up more of your nice green grass with driveway to get to it?

And to remain on topic, my pet peeves are:

- Closed windows all year,

- Big stainless refrigerators with kiddie handprints all over them,

- Wall to wall carpet (which my rental has),

- Nerd Caves (common to dorm rooms with electronics, cables, etc piled on a bowing-under-weight desk),

- Ruffles (the fabric kind, not the chips, which are fabulous),

- Bandwagoning some store or designer because everybody else is,

- Ruffles again, because they're particularly heinous,

and finally,

- Dust - We fight an unending war.

I've never gotten the whole "special shoes for gardening" thing. For plain 'ol gardening I go barefoot or wear flip flops. For heavy duty landscaping jobs (the kind where you have to use a shovel) "garden shoes" aren't really adequate. Who cares if you muddy up your boots? They're boots!

Ditto on a place to keep your drink. Also, if you have a hookup for one, a hose beats a watering can. My front-step plants are alive only because the hose is there.

The wires in our electric blanket can be annoying, but when it dropped to 48 degrees inside (yes, inside) our house last weekend, I didn't mind them at all.

Hand stitched? That must look awesome. I'd love to see a close-up shot. I love the look of hand stitching but get bored after about 5 inches or so. Good for you, Mary!
