My daughter loved the wheely bug! She was an early walker and was fairly nimble and stable when she was still tiny (I had older women tell me I shouldn't let her walk around, that she was "too young"! You try and stop her lady!). The bug was a great size for her to be able to actually move. She got frustrated with the slower, clunkier ride-ons. My nephew is just learning how to walk and he likes to play with it too, but only on the carpet, otherwise it gets away from him too fast. We always decorate for Halloween! The kids have been begging me to get our Halloween stuff out since school started. My son adores anything scary so we do a few "scary" things mixed in with the fun pumpkins and cutesy stuff that my daughter likes. We have a few houses around us that go all out (some even do full haunted houses to walk through on Halloween night) and my kids get SO excited when those decorations start to go up. As far as my kids are concerned a trip to Ikea ranks right up there with the park or Chuck E. Cheese. And if I have to choose between good and cheap food/design eye candy/some time to myself and the fifth ring of hell that is C.E.C. in the summer you bet I'm picking Ikea every. time. IKEA FTW! So cute! Though I may be biased since my son is obsessed with all things Disneyland, the Matterhorn especially, so he and his sister's room plays off the same poster! He'd die for that gondola! Dex's Mountain Cabin Smaller Cooler 2011 Entry #49 |

Ha! My husband and I have this argument all the time! I feel like its so much faster to empty the dishwasher when everything (not just silverware) is sorted. In general you put things in the dishwasher at separate times so its not like you're spending a bunch of time sorting it before hand, just putting like stuff together. Actual time saved is probably negligible, it just seems faster ;) Five Time-Saving Tips For Busy Parents |

We had a "tiny" party for when my daughter turned three! It was so much fun. We did mini-cupcakes, sliders, tiny tacos, all sorts of tiny things. Once you start looking you'll find there's all sorts of "tiny" food out there. :) We decorated with "tiny" balloons (water balloons!) and gave out mini birdhouses and tiny people for favors. My husband and I always joke that our four year old is a hoarder. Not only does she want every single plush animal she's ever set eyes on, she forms deep passionate connections with every. single. one. So while she's fairly good about passing on other toys (we aim for the one toy in, one toy out philosophy), her closet overflows with her plush menagerie. I forced her to give away five animals six months ago (she got to pick and wasn't upset at the time about it). Last night we were watching an old home movie and there in the background was one of the kitties she decided to give away. She was utterly and completely despondent the rest of the night. Mind you this is an animal she happened to have TWO of. But apparently she was not fully prepared to let of Kitten Twin #2. I have to kind of agree I don't really understand how creating a playlist is that much different (or more or less creative) from making a mixtape. My son and I create playlists in iTunes then load them into an old shuffle and he listens to that on a small speaker in his room. He's just learning to read, but once he latches onto that I'm sure he'll be making his own playlists. Why Going Old School With Music Builds Character |

We just threw a "spook costume party" for my six year old! He's always loved spooky and scary stuff. We made one room a "haunted house" and then had another room for some simple games (and for those not brave enough for the haunted house). Everyone came in costume and the kids and adults loved it. After reading your clarification Sarahrae, I totally get what you are trying to say. I love taking on the challenge of creating a memorable, happy day for my kids on a strict budget. And that means I have to use a lot of creativity and elbow grease. Its allowed me to really personalize their birthdays, and create parties that truly reflect what my kids love at that exact moment in their lives. We've had Matterhorn birthdays where we "bobsledded" down hills, pteranodon birthdays with giant nests and eggs, a hot wheels party with drag races, and more, all well under $200 (food included). And I've thought about submitting some of these parties to Ohdeedoh, because I was proud of them and the kids had a blast, but then I hesitate, because I don't have the perfect food table, or matching water bottles and we're all too busy having fun to take beautiful art directed pictures. So I agree there is a bit of that "pressure to rise to this new type of party" that you talk about. But if you can pull it off, more power to you!
