Ditch them. And while you're at it, ditch any CDs you have lying around. Same for magazines. Get a library card instead.

That's not a dishwasher. It's a fridge.

So true. If I'm going to salvage, I'd much rather a) pay someone else to do the refinishing or b) purchase a refurbished item from someone who picks and fixes for a living.

I know too many people with half-finished projects or houses full of garbage and clutter because they're convinced they're going to turn that old skid into a planter or something.

If you don't have the time to make your own laundry detergent, you can buy laundry detergent in cardboard boxes, no? Or from the bulk section of progressive grocers that stock items like soap and detergent in bulk?

I'm with sparklish - it just looks like a couch and tonnes of toys. Fun for the kids I'm sure, just not really fun for readers.

It was mandatory (along with shop) when I went to junior high.

Kids need to learn the basics of cooking and sewing right alongside how to use simple tools. These fundamental DIY skills are essential to living a "green" life or even just a somewhat self-sufficient life.

Totally off-topic here, but "eskimo"? Not to be a Debbie Downer, but here in Canada anyway that's an antiquated term. It's not a slur, per se, but if you used it, people would kind of cringe. It's just, well, not politically correct and I certainly wouldn't use it to name my business if I was doing any work with Canadian clients (with a name like Digital Eskimo you probably wouldn't be). It'd be like naming your company The Digital Oriental.

Mini cribs are the best! In Europe they call them "cribs."

Seriously though, just go straight from them to a bed because a 2 year old is fine in a bed, there's no real need to keep a kid in a crib for years.

@sarahrae Thanks, I'd like that!

Someone at a quilt shop suggested I use a kid's non-toxic glue stick to just hold my applique in place while I machine stitch it down. That said, I don't know what's in those either and at this stage, *everything* goes in that kid's mouth.

Speaking of crafts and toxins....

I've been trying to find a non-toxic fusible interfacing (you know, the kind used for applique, quick interfacing, etc.). I'm making some baby stuff and I've been doing all the applique by hand with just a muslin backer as a stabilizer because I don't know what that fusible interfacing stuff is made out of.

Anyone?

Ditto on the twin nursing pillow and just helping.

If you can't be there to help (like, if you're far away) then look for meal delivery services, cleaning services or find out if she's getting a postpartum doula and offer to pay for a day of service (huge!) or, better yet, spring for a home visit with a lactation consultant (breastfeeding twins is hard as heck).

Oh, oh, if you're going to bring food...take it easy on the cheesy, heavy casserole bombs. They might be simple to put in the freezer, but there are only so many a postpartum woman can eat before her body stops 'moving' completely.

You could buy a powdered soap like the non-toxic Charlie's that comes in a canvas bag (thin plastic bag interior) and uses a lot less plastic packaging or hit up a grocer that deals in bulk and buy biodegradable liquid laundry detergent using your own container and use it again and again.

That said, it's good to see products like this hitting mainstream retailers.
