What about if you rotated the bed so that the head of the bed was against the bathroom wall, then place the futon against the end of the bed with the table in front of it, essentially creating a small living room where you could place a rug to define it and a couple of small chairs. Add some art, a tv, or shelving (or combination of the three) on the newly opened up wall space.
