My favorite curtains are drop clothes I cut in half and hung with curtain clips. They're light, neutral, softening, and surprisingly effective at blocking light. Also- CHEAP!

Spectros have to be calibrated every four hours if you're being really precise. But I have a feeling big box stores probably don't do it that often. I don't mean that like "They suck!" but that the paint match doesn't have to be as spot-on as the work I do.

I downloaded a white noise MP3 from Amazon and burned it to CD to play by my bed. It is 60 minutes long and completely drowns out the sound of the woman downstairs hacking up a lunch every 10 minutes. (You'd think she'd be out of lungs....) To me it sounds like a rainstorm if I get the volume just right. It is very soothing.

I tried this last night with polar fleece and it worked great! I used my rotary cutter and a mat and I was impressed at how professional the end result was. When I was done I pulled on the whole thing to stretch it out and I think it will hold up to a fair amount of abuse before I break it. :)

Also keep in mind that some fabric created for interior design are made to resist fading from sunlight, and they're treated for staining more than your average apparel fabric. And I agree with the above comments- start with something tightly woven and heavier than your average clothing-weight fabric. Go to a fabric store and feel some of the fabrics in the home decorating department and compare them to the fabric you're looking at. If there is a big difference in weight (does it feel durable?) I wouldn't use it. I'd hate to go to all that work and expense of covering a sofa just to have the fabric shrink, warp, pill, or wear funny!. Keep in mind that apparel fabric is usually just fine for pillows and other accent pieces that don't get a lot of heavy daily use.

I love the Christmas decorations and interiors in Little Women. It is simple and homey, even if they do live in a big draft New England house.

Love Actually and the McAllister house are of course fantastic too!

The only one I have ever looked at was for my vacuum cleaner when the belt had to be replaced. I guess I could toss the rest of them, but they don't take up a lot of room.
