I put a long double-depth ply top on an old table base and covered it with zinc (a friend lent me his pole clamps). It sits on my dock and is nicely weathered. I loathe decorative pillows but do read in bed, so my best formula (for two sleepers on a queen bed) is: bolsters to fill the gap between headboard and mattress (it eats pillows otherwise), two cheap synthetic king pillows - they are stiff and keep their shape so great to lean back against, and finally two down queen pillows to lay your head on. The bolsters and kings just sit there, so the only ones I plump and position each morning are the down queens. I have no regrets. How Many Pillows is Too Many? |

We have had good results following the 10% rule: either buy what you really want, or spend no more than 10% of its cost on a stopgap. Sometimes when the function aspect of a piece has been covered we find another use for the money since we have stopped obsessing; other times we obsess until we get it.
