We are currently building a new home which has a resonable sized backyard. I was feeling quite overwhelmed about how to design the backyard I wanted. Then I stumbled across this book - 'Down To Earth Garden Design' by Phil Dudman. I bought mine from the (Australian) ABC Shop. It teaches you how to design your own backyard. But what I found best is, it had templates for different size, shape etc backyards.
