Thanks. We ended up going with the applad fronts and are very pleased with them. After comparing the two we couldn't justify the added expense for the abstrakt (although I am sure they are better quality). Our initial budget post was for the entire house so we agree that this post is a bit confusing as we are comparing budget numbers from the whole house to just the kitchen/family room remodel. Now that the project is actually over it was a bit easier to try to allocate expenses from the whole job to just the area of interest for this renovation diary. We hope that our "actual" numbers are still helpful to someone who might be considering a full kitchen remodel. we actually picked up the couch for free on the side of the road a few years ago and had it reupholstered. I have no clue who manufactured it, but it is one solid piece of furniture as it really heavy. And yes, we do love it. It is just a standard 30" cabinet from IKEA. We actually just put a 30" deep drawer at the bottom of the cabinet, then purchased a fixed shelf (item 045.003.10) and mounted it right above the top of the drawer to support the weight of the microwave. I am not 100% certain that a subcounter is required, but while doing research before we installed our cabinets I read mixed reviews on whether or not one should be installed. for clarification - this budget is for the entire house remodel. Since this renovation diary is focusing on our kitchen we tried to separate our budget accordingly, but some trades were nearly impossible to break-down by each room of the house.
