Thanks EUcosmonaut. I was hoping it wasn't IKEA, because my living room is becoming overrun with IKEA and I want to diversify. I love all the stuff, but enough's enough.

Love and love that you're creative with your space and storage. What kind of coffee table it that? I'm looking for something like that.

Gorgeous, amazing, sleek. Love it. Also for me this is the best house tour I've seen in ages. I too have the question about storage--where's all the stuff that was in the before shots? Did you increase your storage overall and can you tell us about it?

I hate mopping floors. It seems like they can't be perfectly done so I'd rather not do them at all. I'm not even a perfectionist, it's just the logic of the thing.

I LOVE shopping at the Farmers' Market; also Whole Foods and natural food markets. I wouldn't have called that a household task, but since others already did...

I can't think of anything else I actually love. It's either hate or don't mind. No likes or loves.

I don't mind doing laundry, since I have a W/D in my condo and it's pretty simple; I do hang a lot of stuff to air dry, but I've got a pretty good system. I don't mind running trash and recycling to the trash room down the hall, resulting in instant gratification. I do love taking my compost to the compost company at the Farmers' Market, although it's a pain to get all my collection in the freezer organized into one bag.

I love how open shelves look, but way too dusty/grimy for me. I live in an urban area and dust and grime get onto everything. I like nice, clean dishes behind a door that I don't have to wash before I use.

milosmom: an apartment can be a rental or owned/condo, just like a house can be a rental or owned.

In this case, Maxwell has specified that it's a rental apartment.

Is the brass tray what's hanging on the wall of the dining room? That looks so wonderful. Do you know the source?

Day 18: Weekend Chores: Flowers, Living Room, Empty Your Outbox Apartment Therapy January Cure
1/25/13 2:15 PM

Doing everything all out of order and skipping things, I already have the living room done--for now. I had rearranged the living room (at the beginning of the Cure? Just before?) and needed some new things. Went to IKEA and got them--2X4 Expedit shelves and a couple of tables, all of which I put together early in the Cure. I LOVE the new arrangement. I still have to get better organization in the Expedit, which I'm using the long way, on its side, including buying inserts. I already had a party last weekend, since I already planned to have it, and the new arrangement was smashing.

Other than this, I've kind of done a smorgasbord of the Cure, using what I needed to get ready for my party and also did things as I had time. I've knocked a few things off my list that we created at the beginning of the Cure.

I have become pretty unattached to books over the years, as I realized there's really no good reason to keep them, unless there's something really special about them. The libraries and the bookstore are the keepers of books for me. I also pick up tons from my front lobby, which residents use as a give-away drop. Often, books accumulate for me as I pick up freebies that I want to read or if I want to collect a series as I find items in used book stores before I read the series. And once I've invested the time in collecting them (and paying for them especially), it's harder to let them go if I haven't read them.

I do plan to go through my books and see what I can let go of, either to the lobby or to my favorite bookstore that takes books in exchange for credit.

Day 12: Declutter Books & Media Apartment Therapy January Cure
1/17/13 2:11 PM

I will do this tonight by reading my current book. Music allowed! It will be hard to completely stay off the internet, especially since I listen to music through my laptop.

Also, I didn't get flowers last weekend--the flower guy was out of them at the Farmers Market! But I have been thinking I need to do something about the collection of pathetic succulents and a cactus in one of my windows. So instead of flowers this week, I am looking into getting a new, bigger, healthy succulent or planter with a variety of succulents/cacti. I should probably add to my list of to do's "look into how to better care for succulents and cacti."

Day 11: Try a Media Fast Apartment Therapy January Cure
1/16/13 1:39 PM

As usual, doing things all out of order. My first project is new furniture to fill in the rest of my plan in my rearranged living room. I had picked up new furniture at IKEA two weekends ago--2x8 Expedit (white, shiny finish) and two small tabletops and legs that will serve as both a long table/desk when put end to end against back of couch and be versatile enough to move around as needed for, say, a party. I put some together right after shopping and the rest this past weekend and arranged everything. I'm thrilled with the new arrangement.
