Agreed about not using sharpies. I tried that on Christmas gifts, and they came off in a few washes (fortunately, they were on the outside of mugs, and therefore no one actually got poisoned or anything). I'm a big fan of the porcelaine pens [http://tinyurl.com/cvsb3mk], and they come in a bunch of colors! (One pen is usually enough for three dishes, more or less)

Erin, I totally agree with the comment that your landlord should have to take care of it! But if indeed you're stuck with the brick floors as they are, I agree with using wax on them i.e. http://tinyurl.com/chzudne (I prefer it to paste wax, since it seems easier to apply).

These are stunning. I lived in Oak Park, IL for a time in my life and while there fell in love with Frank Lloyd Wright's stained glass designs [http://tinyurl.com/c443qmo], and these remind me of his stuff. I've been wanting to commission a replica for my home...as soon as I get the funds!

I've thought about this! Is it something you can do with just an iPhone or do you need a special GPS device?

The Washington Post had a great article on working from bed and positions and pain points to avoid (similar to the laptop pain points post that you wrote, actually). I use this lap desk, and have been fairly happy with it (plus, it was cheap, which is a plus): http://tinyurl.com/cvrncly

I agree--I wish they had chosen something lighter to balance out the more static and grounded lines in the room. Maybe the ubiquitous "artichoke light"? http://tinyurl.com/d78vplm

I couldn't agree more about using the "zip" method. I had a conversation with my plumber who said you should never EVER use chemicals because they end up really harming the pipe (which is the reason you strip it down to the enamel in the first place). So for me, beyond calling a $100/hr. plumber, the zip-it method is best. And at less than $2, it's a perfect solution: http://tinyurl.com/d23ddob

Amazing.

As long as you've got a clean pizza box sitting around (or I could suggest this when my roommates leave pizza boxes sitting on top of the recycling rather than deconstructing them and putting them INSIDE). I use this one--it's not cardboard, but it is fairly lightweight--and love that it doesn't visually clutter my desk: http://tinyurl.com/d88bhac

Would love to try this one just for fun though--it's a lovely diy design.

I LOVE that you chose all wood items--I think wood gifts for children are so beautifully designed, and I am a big fan of them not using plastic. I had this block set when I was a kid, and really liked them: http://tinyurl.com/bnrk2q2 (I think now you can also buy them used, although since the wood is porous you might not want to).

It's totally not a waste of money! I use mine on my outside plants, and the benefit of this versus a glass of water is that the water comes out like rain--an evenly covers the plant and the soil to prevent selective erosion. I use one that isn't as pretty as the ones in the picture--it was just the cheapest olive green one at the hardware store--but it does the trick! http://tinyurl.com/bmnmgz7

I love these! I had a similar idea, and used teacups for my herb garden last summer. The problem was that they didn't have proper drainage, so I'm going to try it again with special made teacups with holes in the bottom just for this purpose (http://tinyurl.com/ckfqeo8), and I'm planning on painting a lovely pattern on them as well :). Great look, Melissa!

I totally agree with @fuzzyEgg. Some crisp, white bedding would be so lovely with these. You could get a pretty cheap white duvet cover i.e. http://tinyurl.com/bvgmxfo but then dress it up with a gold velvet throw at the foot of the bed. Lovely choices--you've got great taste!

I love these! I'm looking to refresh my deck furniture as well with some new fabrics, and am planning on using (and spraying with scotchguard) some lovely batik in summer colors. It's a dollar over the $10 limit, but I can't help myself! http://tinyurl.com/cfxm7s3

I know I've mentioned it before, but I can't get enough of little trees in apartments, especially ones with stark white walls. The ones in photos 4 and 5 look so sharp! We've talked here before about citrus trees indoors as well (i.e. http://tinyurl.com/bond9at), and I love how that adds a bit more variety in terms of color (plus they smell amazing!).
