We have lived in our house for 33 years and I call it the potato house. Various shades of beige. Light beige, dark beige, medium beige, sand, etc. Get the picture. I would just love some color in my life. Hubby has to always research for fear of the wrong color so.......you guessed it , let's go with beige. Can't wait to see the finished project.

This is so true. When I was younger I never saw the other side of anything that I didn't like. Now that I am older I love just seeing what other people do even if it isn't my taste and I do feel that I get something out of other folks projects.

I found this rather sad too. My husband rarely eats at the table with me and my sons when they are home and if he does he eats and then leaves. It is very hard cause there is no conversation. I envy the couples who look like they are truly enjoying each others conversation.

I would warm it up a bit but.....I would take the books and put them on the shelves in an interesting way with some of the neat things she has and that back brick wall I would fin a great antique crazy quilt or a huge old sign with some color in it. Her place is great.

This is exactly why I love apartment therapy. I have a house and compared to everyone I know it is very small. I don't have a dishwasher and people look at me like I have 4 heads. I love seeing what others do with smaller spaces and especially thrift store finds and collectibles. This kitchen is great.

This is such great advice. My husband seems to think that a house always has to look like it picture perfect 24/7. Consequently he purchases furniture that is uncomfortable cause he thinks it just looks better. Wants nothing anywhere that says we live here.

Oh my goodness!!!!! I love your place. I wish I was 30 years younger and starting over because your place is exactly how mine would look. I have so many of the things you have and they are packed away.

This man is amazing. The outfit rocks but more importantly is his eye for collecting. Is he married?

I really admire those folks who can live in a small space and have it look really great. I live in the southern suburbs in a bi-level home for the last 30 years and I would love to be able to get rid of all my crap and live in a smallish nice apartment in the city.

I know exactly what you went through. My problem though is that I am 55years old and the keeper of everything as people pass away. Some how i just can't seem to part with things. As a result I too have a storage unit and my dads house that is full and my own home. I think some people are just the keepers of things for many reasons. The unfortunate thing is that you pass it on to your children. One of mine also lives in a loft in Chicago and has things that should find their way to the alley. Another shares a apartment in the city also but is a major collector of things like is mother.
I think the best answer was from Lisa in Montreal
