This is absolutely lovely--a perfect idea for me. I have a one-bedroom for the first time (was a studio gal for years), and, although I adore the amount of space, I'm not so fond of my inability to decorate it attractively (cozily; luxuriously). This house tour gives me the greatest ideas.

I'm a certified TV junkie who watches everything from Tila Tequila to The Wire, and I've been doing the no-TV thing for a long time. Internet's cheaper than cable, and the quality is good. No commercials. Doesn't require much space: good for a studio apartment. Portable. No need to rely on "when things are on." For me, it's no contest. When I get more space in the future, it'll be nice to have a TV, but until then, I am set.

"Dexter" is great. The idea of this stuff at the Met is great. The idea of it in my house is not--but then, they're not intended for the house. Also not great: the quasi-moral, only vaguely-logical anti-"Dexter" randomness.

P.S.: "i wonder if people would watch dexter if it were about a smart, charming, handsome rapist, child molester, or something": Of course they would. Ever heard of "Lolita"? Incredibly widely read book, Nabokov, narrated by a fella by the name of Humbert Humbert? Not that this is relative to "Dexter," because they are kind of not comparable at all, but seriously.

peculiarly, i actually have mild ocd, but it tends to relate to sorting, but necessarily to cleaning; certain things have to be in certain places before i go, but cleaning doesn't necessarily happen, as i do tend to be in a hurry. putting things exactly where they should be takes up a lot of time, and by the time that's through, i'm usually late!

@StacyLC212: Yes, and many purebred AKC-certified dogs come riddled with health issues caused by a tiny little thing called inbreeding. Charles II of Spain, anyone? And, if the inbreeding doesn't get you, poor breeding might, whether the dog is "pure" or otherwise; poor breeders and caretakers don't just raise mutts--it's a risk you take with pretty much any kind of dog, regardless of pedigree.

I think this will be lovely! I don't have any suggestions that don't just repeat what others have said, so I'll cut straight to my question: can you please please post pictures when it's done?

my response to this probably has a lot to do with the fact that i don't cook--ever, really. i like this--the blackboard thing was beginning to feel tired to me, even though i'd liked it a lot before, and this makes it unique. very few people would have it here because of the practicality factor--i love it, because it's unique, quirky, and because my kitchen functions mostly as an aesthetic space and as alcohol storage.

i completely agree with elvedon. who cares whether a potential visitor thinks your photos only belong in the bedroom? it's ridiculously intrusive for anyone to say anything like that. put them in places where you want to see them. a friend of mine has a bunch in her apartment in little unexpected places, pretty much all over the place, and i think it's lovely and sweet. another one has one giant photo in the living room. not my aesthetic taste, but i have never had a problem with it. these photos, displayed very differently, make my friends very happy, and i like that they've filled their places with things that please them in places that please them. do whatever the hell you want, and if your friends like seeing you happy, they'll be fine with it.

on the flip side, i have married friends whose photos i've never seen--i don't know whether they're in their respective bedrooms or whether they just don't like photos, but i don't care. they're wedding photos, for christ's sake--the only reason i'd care about where someone put them would be on the off-chance that they'd hidden them away out of fear of judgy visitors.

at least with pets, as opposed to children, you don't risk passing on any negative hereditary traits. pissiness, for example. the moral of the story being: unless you're damn well willing to back up your badly-spelled assertions with a fact or two ("How many monster SUVs are bought - not to transort children to school (what ever happened to walking? another victim of suburban sprawl?) but rather to carry tribes of Labradors in style"--great question . . . how many?), take it easy.

i like that a lot--in my dream apartment, there's always been something like this going on; another variation i'd love to see (but love to have even more) would involve an old-school library card catalogue.

i agree with the neutral yet rich & buttery suggestion! but, i'm not so sure about vanilla ice cream. (by the way, i've just been hit with a sudden ice cream craving, so i apologize in advance for all the ice cream in this comment.) i'm thinking something like a butter pecan, or a burnt caramel.
