I'm going to be the buzzkill lawyer who swoops in.

First off, I love, love, love this kitchen. Serious love. I want to do those tiles in my kitchen but I've never tiled a backspash and I'm afraid it would be quite difficult and I'd botch the job.

Second, in the state in which I am barred (along with most states in the US) all improvements are illegal if performed by a tenant without permission from the landlord. If s/he were to institute an action, you will almost definitely have to pay the amount to have it renovated/restored along with the Court costs. Those costs are the bare minimum.

Additionally, any improvement considered to be a 'fixture' can never be removed and belongs to the property (unless, of course, the landlord decides it is an eyesore when you move out; in which case he may dock your deposit for its removal.) I doubt you'd rip the tile out, anywho, it's just my additional .02.

I love what you've done. It looks really good. You have a good eye and if you were close to my state, I'd ask you over for tea and to pick your brain on a recommendation for a tile color for my backsplash. =)
