The reason we recommend filling the tub first is to add weight. Modern tubs are usually acrylic and can flex when the weight of a person is added. You want weight in the tub or shower so that the space where you are going to caulk is at it's widest point. Filling the tub is just the easiest way to add that weight. While silicone creates a flexible joint, it is NOT elastomeric. It can't adjust back and forth for people of differing weights. The theory behind it is if the joint to be at it's widest point when you silicone it, it's less likely to stretch and separate on occasions when the tub or shower pan flexes more than usual. Note: It's important to remove every trace of the old silicone as the new silicone will not bond well, if at all to the old silicone. How To Recaulk a Bathtub Apartment Therapy Tutorials |

If you're lucky enough to have a "dedicated home theater room" then darker tones are definitely the best choice and add to the whole sitting in a dark theater feeling. Light reflection from your media source can be a real issue if the wall color just reflects all that light. Even doors for the room can be an issue if they are light in color. You don't have to paint them out - I just added dark curtains I can draw across to block my white doors. The rooms lighting is also an important consideration and dimmers are a must. You might want additional lighting at your seating area or to light up your movie storage area so you can read the titles. Flooring choice is another factor as many types reflect light. The addition of a large, dark area rug can help with this issue. As stated above, softer surfaces help with sound absorption - so many people have hard surface seating like leather couches in their theater rooms which can make sound bounce. My home theater is sound insulated and as an avid reader, I find it's a great space to relax and enjoy a good book. One improvement I would like to see in the "home theater equipment" industry is the ability to dim the lighting on the actual receivers etc. Sometimes they can be distracting especially if you are using multiple brands with different color lighting on their displays! My girlfriend, who's an avid knitter, made several for the dining chairs in her home. She showed them to me and asked what I thought they were for. My first thought was "dick warmers". Needless to say, after revealing my thoughts to her husband's friends on their annual winter camping trip, she had several requests for her "dick warmers". Not sure how she determined the measurements but I'm ASSuming it's like Vegas - What happens at camp sites, stays in campsites... Weigh In: Should Chairs Wear Socks? |
