Sox - AMEN.

This post is kick-ass. I'll take tuna in just about anything, and now I have a host of new ideas. I'm not even a curry fan, but I love the sound of that concoction MINUS the tsp of curry powder, Rivercat0338.

Trader Joe's makes an awesome fat-free balsamic salad dressing that is to-die-for drizzled over tuna (mixed with anything)!

The Chicken with Shallot-Apricot Sauce sauce is fantastic! I made it back when you posted it, and this is a good reminder to make it again! It was my first attempt at reduction sauce, and it turned out beautifully.

I'm still on the "we found the Magnum by Team 7 which we both liked but it's very expensive" part... On my budget, both the tables you're arguing about are considered expensive.

I LOVE TJ's, and most of this hilarious song - good and bad - is, admittedly, true. Except the paper bag handle claim - they're the sturdiest I've ever encountered, and we're fairly guilty to admit that we don't bring our own bags to TJ's on purpose - so we can bring home a couple of theirs! They hold EVERYTHING (and we reuse ours for toting, recycling, bringing in firewood, etc)! Great video.

One of the most disappointing points of the night for me was when I read the earlier "Who Will Win?" post here on AT around 9:30pm (before the finale), and while scrolling down the comments, read someone's that had already seen the finale in a different time zone. Boo on you for posting the outcome. I had to watch it knowing who would win. That sucked.

Kudos to Karla for being SO passionate about what she does that I couldn't have given a rip about Stefan and Hosea's snippy little competitive banter. I was still so proud of her!

The link came up fine for me, and it looks delicious, so I'm gonna cut 'n paste it below (apologize for length - had to do it!):

Chickpea & Bread Soup

3 tbsp. olive oil, divided
1 yellow onion, finely diced
2 15 oz. cans chickpeas, drained and well rinsed
4 cups beef stock
3/4 a baguette, cut into small chunks
4 - 5 oz. shredded cheese (I used jack, but Gruyere would be awesome here!)

Set a large, heavy pot over medium heat and add 1 tbsp. of the olive oil. Saute the onions for 10 minutes, or until they’re soft and almost brown. Remove the onions to a bowl and set aside.

Add the rest of the olive oil to the pot, then the chickpeas. Toast the chickpeas until they’re golden on all sides, about 20 minutes. Resist the urge to stir them too often, or they won’t toast well. You should hear the chickpeas popping in the heat. Give them a good stir occasionally to make sure they’re not sticking.

Once your chickpeas are golden and toasted, add the stock, using a wooden spoon to scrape any chickpea residue from the bottom of the pot. Add the onions back into the pot and simmer for 5 minutes. Stir in the bread.

Ladle the soup into oven-safe dishes or small pots. Sprinkle each one with cheese and place them under your oven’s broiler for 5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and browned. Remove carefully and serve immediately.

Makes 4 big bowls of soup.

What heather77 said.

Carla was NOT my favorite to begin with - all the "love" talk about did me in. She has, however, revealed strength, character, and a classy modesty that has completely won me over. Plus, she clearly has mad skills. She pays attention, and that counts for a LOT.

Go Carla! Hootie Hoo!

Another curious questioner of the carts' origin... saw a shopping cart chair yesterday on re-nest from a site that refashions items into furniture, but was appalling in price. Always bugs me when things are "reused" and sold for thousands of dollars. The designing minds at Ikea, many years ago, approached a manufacturer of metal shopping carts to help design a low-cost table made with similar lines and concepts. I thought that was way innovative!

I like mine ripety-ripe, too, klyncher! But when they're too ripe, even for me, I make banana oatmeal. I put about 2-3 cups of milk into a pan with two beaten eggs, about 1/4 c. brown sugar (or some honey - both can be omitted), and a few glugs of vanilla. Then I blend a chopped banana with a splash of milk in my mini-blender and throw that in. Stir well and whisk, fairly constantly, until the mixture JUST starts to boil. Take off the heat and add enough quick oats to get a "soupy" mixture (it will thicken over the next few minutes); cover for about 5-10 minutes. A drizzle of honey or maple syrup and some milk - damned good!

Wow, I have such a hard time with "re-using" things and marketing them at prices like these. Admittedly, VERY clever... but $4200 (approx USD) for that desk? Yikes. And the chair - a modest $1000. Not unprecedented, incidentally, as long ago Ikea approached a manufacturer of shopping carts to create an affordable kitchen table - now THAT'S innovative thinking.

Jesse Lu - for the record (referring to the above comment) I find absolutely NOTHING wrong with having an attachment to glass jars... I can't throw them away, and constantly find uses for them. I think this could look really good if done tastefully and grouped artfully.

To each his own!

Many years ago I was trying to consolidate two half-full bottles of Tide detergent, and did it over the kitchen floor. Apparently I missed the opening of the recipient bottle a little, so the thick blue liquid began coursing down the side of it. It wouldn't have been SO bad, considering my floors were cheap white linoleum, but the cat was enamored with the process and had planted herself directly under the flowing detergent... At first it was spilling onto her back so she didn't seem to notice - by the time she did, she was covered with a thick coating of concentrated liquid soap (back, head, everywhere), and I had to abandon the bottles in time to keep her from escaping to the carpeted living room (no small task, as slick as she was).

I sincerely hope no one reading this has ever tried to shower a cat free of Tide. For starters, we know about how much they love water - I had to literally pin her down under the faucet and just keep scrubbing her fur - the first few scrubs only activated the liquid. Scrub, rinse, dodge cat-going-postal-in-kitchen-sink. Over and over and over, while she emitted a sound I had never in my life heard, and that warranted a visit from the neighbors. When I did finally get most of it off and let up for a second, she leaped about six feet from the counter and into the next room, dripping wet (cats are really very small, without all that fluff). She just kept stopping every few feet to pause and shake her back legs out, one at a time, and glare at me. It was a sad, pathetic sight. I did not see her much over the ensuing week.
