It really is such a great warm color. When the sun is setting, we get this directional light just all over that wall, which warms up the whole apartment and makes us just want to lie on the floor. I hope the new owners did keep the color... Johanna and Mike's Bright Brooklyn Home House Tour |

Ah, sorry; we actually have pretty decent closet space. There's a big/high one in the alcove with folding doors (pictures were taken but didn't end up on here), and two in that hallway between the bookshelves and bathroom, though one of them is the oddest, thinnest, deepest closet ever. A person can't fit in it and it's literally six feet deep. Strange. Johanna and Mike's Bright Brooklyn Home House Tour |

Just Benjamin Moore's Auro "Tomato Red." We sampled about half a dozen other shades before deciding on this one, which is funny, since Johanna said at the start, "I want to paint that wall tomato red." Johanna and Mike's Bright Brooklyn Home House Tour |

Thanks. And I work in publishing, so I could literally bring home a dozen books a day. It's so hard not to. Johanna and Mike's Bright Brooklyn Home House Tour |

Hey Smile Queen, if I did it would have to include a lot of "don't do this" and "oops I screwed it up again" moments. It took me ages. I started by sketching options and we almost went with one of those more boxy bookshelves, w/ book compartments (which would have looked cool, I'm sure), but we went with simple. So I measured all the angles. Above the door is one long board from wall to wall. And there's a fuze box in that wall we had to work around (hence the differing heights of certain shelves; but this also appealed to us - we didn't want total uniformity). That doorway, btw, is in no way straight. At bottom it is 2 inches wider than at top, so using hand tools I shaved or sawed off bits of the shelves so that that left-side support was flush w/ the doorway. I built the whole thing in the front room with screws, making sure it would fit where it was supposed to go, and then we painted it and attached brackets and secured it to the walls. A, uh, snap. Hey Vesper, yes indeed, a full-size dishwasher, and a full-size fridge too (it's on the left just inside the kitchen). And a really nice-sized stove, too. The kitchen is only a few years old. It's big enough for the two of us at the same time and the layout, for this space, is actually fantastic. If we had a bigger apartment we'd love a bigger and more open kitchen. If we could change anything we'd enlarge the bathroom, I think. It's our least favorite space. Johanna and Mike's Bright Brooklyn Home House Tour |

Hey S.D. No TV. We watch DVDs or stream stuff on... wait for it, our laptops (or iPad; getting smaller, smaller...). There's nothing like 2001: A Space Odyssey on a 12-inch screen. Johanna and Mike's Bright Brooklyn Home House Tour |

We're lucky to have a decent-sized storage cage in the basement of our building which is stuffed with all sorts of clutter, including 6 additional chairs and another table. But we can fit six around that dining table, believe it or not, and both the coffee table and the shoe-shine end table double as chairs... Johanna and Mike's Bright Brooklyn Home House Tour |

Hey emaria, we found that at this little store in Great Barrington, MA, called Seeds & Co, I think. It doubles as a chair, actually, when we have company. Very sturdy. Johanna & Mike's Stylish Small Space House Call |
