The planet box is a bit heavy, but when my skinny girl started using it in kindergarten she had no problems and she had the thermos with it as well. Plus boots and snow pants in her backpack on some days. I love that I don't have to worry about lost tops of any containers plus on the few times that she has forgotten it at school, it doesn't retain all the icky smell like plastic would. Planet box for sure! Easy to open, insulated, zero waste. We use a flip top easy open insulated beverage container with it from Thermos. My son could open all of it at age 4 and is thrilled to have his own, now that he is 5. Lunch Food Packaging That Is Easy to Open Good Questions |

We fill up our sand table with dried split peas in the winter. We chose them since they were the cheapest of all the dried beans! We just keep them in a bucket during the summer when the table is outside with sand in it. The kids love it. Sensory Bin Idea: A Black Bean Planter Ebb and Flow |

I agree with the California Baby products, they are awesome. We love the bibs from Bumkin, they wash up by hand or in the wash super quick and easy and never stain. The temporal thermometer is awesome as well. The ear ones aren't as accurate and they typically use the temporal at clinics so it's best that they get used to that. My children are 20 months apart and we transitioned our daughter out of her crib at about 16 months. She wasn't escaping but we got her new room ready complete with a full size bed and she was so excited about it she went in it and STAYED there. We had a rail from One Step Ahead on the bed and when she woke up she'd say, "I'm up" and we'd come in and she stayed in at night as well. I agree with the comments about not getting a toddler bed, they are uncomfortable, the mattresses are hard. Our daughter was so much happier in the bed and it's easier to read books as well. We have a padded headrest which is SO nice for that. She just slept on the sheet and cuddled with her blankie like always and we kept the quilt at the bottom of the bed which would keep her from scrunching down and falling off at the bottom. It just depends on your child and how much they listen and are comforted by their room. Ours felt safer in her room than wandering out and the rest of the house was child proof anyway, and our room was right next door. Another option would be to get an inexpensive bassinet to keep the baby in for the first 4 months or so till the second is ready to move. Good luck! Thanks littlestchicken! She loves that dollhouse and plays with it lots. We have the plastic parts in it and the wooden ones my sister made when she was little. It's a good mix. We even have GeoTrax in my sons room, GASP! ;) Mika's Cheery Big Girl Room Small Kids, Big Color Entry #64 |

I loved that you framed the book covers, especially Skippyjon Jones! I believe that since your child is 2 and you took that glass out she can learn to leave the frames alone. Beautiful room. Lucy's Happy Blue Room Small Kids, Big Color Entry #61 |

It did take a long time. I did it over a couple weeks. I would do some each wall since you had to wait for it to dry to move on. The part that was frustrating was that the stencil did not have registration marks so it was hard to keep it even and it made it so I couldn't work in more than one spot, so it isn't as perfect as it looks, but thanks! I still love how it turned out. I got it at designerstencils.com Mika's Cheery Big Girl Room Small Kids, Big Color Entry #64 |

You could also use the squash in soups or mix it with some cherve and mozzarella cheese and put into some pot sticker wrappers and boil it to make some of your own delicious ravioli. Then put it with some sage and brown butter sauce or go all out and puree some roasted bell peppers along with some chicken or vegetable stock and use that for some sauce, top with some freshly grated parmesean or toasted pine nuts and you have a quick first course or serve with some bread and asparagus or salad for a light dinner! We have the Ikea loft bed and my 4 year old son still doesn't like to sleep on top. I'd like it if he did! We even have the tent thing that goes on top to make him feel all cozy up there, but he'd rather sleep below. We keep all his stuffed toys up top. When his sister gets scared due to storms she climbs up and sleeps up there. It's a win win for us. She is almost 6. Using a Loft for Storage Instead of Sleep? Good Questions |

We love the Planetbox too! My daughter gets lots of complements at school, even though she is one of 3 in her whole kindergarten class that brings their own lunch. It's easy to pack and the bag you can get with it is great too. Even though I debated spending the money it was totally worth it. I've heard good things about Happy Tiffin as well. Lunchbox Roundup |

My son loves the Ikea one. He plays with it all the time at his Papas house. We have geotrax here at home which isn't on your list since it is plastic. We got it since the tracks once put together stay together unless you want them to come apart. Unless you plan to buy other brands of wooden trains, the Ikea set works great. My son has played with Brio sets elsewhere and I haven't noticed much of a difference and neither has he. I agree though, check Craigslist and garage sales, but if you want to get new, you can't beat the Ikea price for something that he'll play with till he is about 5-6. Five Starter Train Sets |

I completely agree. While it is difficult for me to bring my kids to afternoon playgroups due to naps, I almost wouldn't want to anyway since there are always unhealthy snacks. I don't consider 4 pm as snack time anyway since it is too close to dinner. It would be ok if it were some baby carrots or some cut up apples. Also, I don't want to feel pressure to provide a snack at that time of day if we host a playgroup. At preschool my son had rice crispy bars as the snack the other day. That is considered a healthy snack? Yikes. Snacking at Home | Apartment Therapy Ohdeedoh |

I'm surprised that you passed home inspection. We had to install a hand rail for 4 stairs after a landing that continued up the stairs that were all enclosed in order to obtain home owners insurance. All I can say is good luck. Our kids can handle our stairs now but we have the same rules as mentioned above and although we have removed our gates we still have a pop in gate here for when friends are over who have little ones over since you'll need to keep them safe as well. Even though your child will learn how to use the steps safely you'll still need to consider your guests and their little ones. My friend had a kid who did the same thing. She had to put them on backwards and pin the zipper eventually or the child would still take them off. good luck. Footed Pajamas for Harry Houdini Good Questions | Apartment Therapy Ohdeedoh |

I completely agree. My kids loved them and sometimes still watch them. I never thought it would make them smarter although I do think one helped with their number learning. Also, it's nicer to listen to them sometimes over a obnoxious cartoon! Apartment Therapy Ohdeedoh | Disney Offering Full Refunds For Baby Einstein DVDs (With or Without Your Receipt) |
