Seaside - Yes, Susan and Russ Ortiz (the homeowners in this story) own Shine Home (shineeveryday.com or shopshinehome.com). Such great style!

I adore SF-based Emilia Ceramics (http://emiliaceramics.com/) which has a registry service (http://emiliaceramics.com/gift_registry.php) now. Unique hand-painted ceramics from Mexico and Europe. GORGEOUS. A few friends are registered here and I loved picking out registry gifts that weren't generic big-box store items.

Ikea is great, but I wish they had more with drainage holes... In San Francisco, I love Flora Grubb Gardens (http://www.floragrubb.com/idx/index.php) and Area San Francisco (http://areasanfrancisco.com/).

I love Elizabeth Soule's work! Check out this piece we did about her miniature collection in Sunset magazine:

I loved this article (though couldn't stand the big white stencil pattern, or the stripped walls). And yes, $300 is a lot to spend for someone who is unemployed. But, environment breeds mood, and when someone is home all day trying to get work, an organized, inspiring space is REALLY important. More than anything I enjoyed the fact that most people just needed to get organized, clean, and reconsider furniture placement and use—all FREE ideas.

So fun to see this story resurrected! This piece ran in a special 2005 newsstand-only issue of Sunset called "Living 101". Lotta indeed now lives in Brooklyn.
unm00red - That desk/table was build by Lotta's husband, Nick Anderson.

I adore Lisa, her husband Nick, their cute little dog, and their gorgeous Cliff May home! She has a style that's so simple, but so artsy and well edited—the kind of comfortable-gallery display look (in her little shelf displays) that would take me days (of possession purging) to achieve, but one that seems to just be part of who she is. Check out more pics from my recent visit to the home here: http://www.homebysunset.com/home_by_sunset/2009/02/sunset-visits-g.html
